Re: Busy Days or Quiet At Home Days?

I guess I much perfer a busier life, I really enjoy my out running around time and seeing people and staying active. But I really enjoy a couple days a week just at home getting things done and having some down time. But I must admit I miss those days of taking the kids here and there and also doing things for my parents. Sadly those days are gone now.

I use to love running around all the time, going out to dance and drink, play pool  and listen to music with friends. I loved drama too.

Now I enjoy quiet time and dont like any drama at all, I will shut it down. I need quiet and to relax after being at get togethers.

Re: Busy Days or Quiet At Home Days?

I do believe I am greedy and enjoy "my time."    Since I have stopped working I have a great plan, days that I devote outside the home, church groups, volunteering, caring for grands, etc.  and days I can stay in to do as I wish. Whatever it is I find lists help.  They help me devote my time to things that need to be done and gives me a way to reflect back on the day/week to see I have accomplished alot.  The one thing I am unable to do is nothing!  Throughout the summer I stay busy with activities and treat myself to poolside time from 5 to 7.  Then I can relax, swim and read until it is time to make dinner.

I so want to have some "quiet at home time", soon, I hope. So much to do this time of year though.

Re: Busy Days or Quiet At Home Days?

I have both busy days and quiet days. I work 3 days a week and have 2 boys, 10 and 13. The days I work I'm up at 5:00 and don't get home until 5:30. They are busy from the time I get up until the time I go to bed.

Weekends are usually pretty busy too, groceries, housekeeping, projects/activities with the hubby and the kids.

So that being said, I LOVE my quiet days at home with no one but the dogs. (They're loud enough). I putter around the house but it's the only real time I get to do whatever I want without having to answer to someone else. I can read, watch TV, anything. I hate it when I have to run errands or make appointments or do anything else to leave the house on those 2 days a week, even if it's a social engagement. That quiet alone time is so precious to me, I hate to give it up for anything. I'm really looking forward to when I can retire and be home all the time, so that I can actually get involved in something I enjoy, rather than just work, but that's not happening anytime soon.

@rnmom you'll get there.  Once the kids are off to college things will change and the quiet days will come.  Once the kids graduate the free time really becomes apparent.

I definitely cherish quiet days at home. I enjoy peace and tranquility and live a simple yet satisfying lifestyle. I truly enjoy my home and retirement.

I like a nice balance, not too busy that I’m stressed, not to bored that I’m looking for something to do. .that being said, I’m an introvert, so for me alone time is when I re-charge ...if I don’t get it, it stresses me out and I’m cranky😲

Take time every day to enjoy where you are without a need to fix it

My DH was recently elected to our church vestry so he is a very busy man - freq. meetings, which keep him out of the house a lot (yeah). Really, it's almost like he has a part time job. So - since he is out and the car is with him - I am enjoying quiet days at home. Much of it spent in my sewing room. Enjoyable!

About a year ago, you said that your husband had dementia - you used that actual word.  But you haven't mentioned it again, and reading this post i have to assume that he isn't suffering from dementia.  Was that a mis-diagnosis? I'm happy for you that things are obviously better, but confused.  What happened?

Re: Busy Days or Quiet At Home Days?

mominohio,

I agree with all you've said. Striking the right balance is different in life's various stages & is learned as you go along.  But I do think near/during retirement may be more challenging as you have more time.

Some of us may welcome a more calming lifestyle while others prefer to stay busy.  I hope to be able to find "the right balance" to do both.
