Your topic reminds me of April 1972 when newly married, we borrowed a card table and chairs from our new landlady.  My husband and I believed you don't buy on credit so until we had the money to purchase our dining set (Ethan Allen)  we used the card table.  We had purchased our bedroom and new carpeting but dining could wait. We have basically done the same throughout our marriage.  I have fond memories of those leaner yet exciting years. Thanks for the chance to think back.  By the way, we do own a set we purchased years ago.

Around our neighborhood they were always called 'card tables' as only 'the rich' played bridge.

I think just about every family had one. They were mostly used for playing cards or family gatherings to be able to seat more people.

I have an old beat up table still in the basement holding some things I'm storing. 

The other thing we always had was TV trays. 

I haven't used either one for many years, but thanks for bringing back those memories!

I got mine at Walmart! About 10 years ago I paid $50.00 for table and four nice, padded and fabric covered folding chairs! They run sales all the time! Now that I'm redecorating, I want to buy a permanent game table and chairs. My folks had one years ago, there was a chess board in laid. I'm looking for a high quality, formal bridge set. I play bridge often and I have to drag out my folding set all the time. I'd also like to be able to do a kid saw puzzle on it and teach my grand how to play chess when not using it to play other games!

I remember growing up with the bridge table and chairs.  We always loved when they came out for whatever reason. I have found them at several estate sales I've been to.  But also found people bid them up to more than what you could replace them for new.

I had an ancient one that was my great aunt's.  We are retired military and we moved a lot so eventually I gave it away as I saw no need for it and was tired of storing it.
