Bread box and Canister set.....

Neighbor passed away and the grown kids are having a yard sale.

She had a beautiful wooden bread box that had a front like a roll top desk. Canister set was also wood and matched the bread box....

Brought back memories of my kitchen 40 some years ago with my set and matching spice rack......received all of it from my Bridal shower.....

Anyone else remember or still use one?

Re: Bread box and Canister set.....

After 36 years of marriage, my husband gave me a very nice bread box for Christmas last year (I am very ok with practical presents).  However, we do not eat much bread nor do we have sufficient counterspace for it.  I have seen ones like you describe.  I do have a canister set that is ceramic.  My mom stored cookbooks in her bread box...

Re: Bread box and Canister set.....

We still have a bread box. I'd donate it if I could, but my husband likes it.

We don't keep bread in it. In fact, there are just a few candy bars in there and two things stored on top of the breadbox. We've had it since we got married, 26 years ago.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

Breadbox can be used by you or DH as a safe place to drop off keys, wallet, pens, etc at the end of the day.....this way, all the necessaries will be readily available but hidden from sight.

Yes, I used canisters and a bread box in my first kitchen 42 years ago.   I got rid of them when we moved in this house 36 years ago because my galley kitchen has very little counter space.

Re: Bread box and Canister set.....

While I don't use a breadbox, I still use and display cannisters.

I picked up a set of Pfaltzgraff etched glass cannisters that were on clearance at a kitchen supply store in a trendy mall.

I keep them because of the great memories. Out shopping with my BFF that day, got lunch and went looking for things for my first place.

Even on clearance I thought they were a fortune back then!

Re: Bread box and Canister set.....

I've had the sets too.

Now, we use a canister for sugar, primarily for tea until I do holiday baking (sugar sacks are such a mess).  I have a small shelf that pulld out that we've always had the bread in.
