I also didn't want to pay an arm and a leg for a washer either. Got a very good deal at Lowe's.
Enjoy your Speed Queen!
I just bought a basic top loader, Roper By Whirlpool, from Lowe's. I got a great deal and it works great. It's just me, so I don't need a big, huge machine with all the bells and whistles (more to go wrong, IMO)

We purchased our Speed Queen just a month ago on the Internet at ""Appliance World"".com
They had the best price even with 50 shipping costs.

I saw Speed Queen washers at Lowe's when I was looking for a washer. Don't know if they still carry them or not. That was 4 years ago.
betteb...Same here. It's just me so I didn't need some fancy schmancy thing.

I have a top loader without the agitator and would not buy again. The clothes do not get clean like the old fashioned agitator machines. Also I hate that the lid locks and you can not add items. My next washing machine and I am sure there will be one will be a top loader with a agitator. Just my two cents.

I have a Sears Lady Kenmore top loader washing machine, and it is 20 years old. The other day the knob for the cycles broke off in my hand. I had it repaired and it cost me $92.00. I told the repairman that I was considering getting a new washer in the near future. He told me that the one I have is a very good machine, and they don't make them like that anymore. He said if it breaks I should consider getting it fixed. In 20 years this is the first time I have had anything break. If I do get a new one, I will only buy Sears Kenmore. All my appliances are Kenmore. I did by a different dryer several years ago and regretted it.

I can honestly say that no one here is unhappy with the quality or performance of any of the appliances so far. Personally, i don't think all the fancy and expensive things that are availabe today are needed and are just another thing to breakdown. I am happy with my basic appliances, they do exactly what is needed and you don't have to have a degree in computers to use them.I bought an old style GE about 4 years ago. I bought a Kenmore last year, and I cannot tell you how much I HATE that machine. It's one of those that seeks the level needed of water. Never mind if the clothes are filthy. And it spins the clothes so tightly that I know I'm going to have to iron them even after they go through the dryer. It all sounds so good and energy efficient on paper and in advertising.
The only way I've "fooled" this particular model is to put a load in on Soak and let them get good and wet--it doesn't spin just drains. Then do a full wash on bulky. Well, there goes the water saving. I can't afford to buy another one and should have sent it back after the first wash.

Wow! Thank you. If I can't find a knob/switch for my old GE, (which I love because of the very short wash cycle, which is easy on the motor/spin/agitation mechanisms), I'll purchase your suggestion. I'm making a note of it. I'm sure that one day, eventually, I'll need a new washer. (Hopefully not, though.) .... Thanks again.
