Oh, you're right, @jubilant -- I see @aubnwa01 solved it, it's a ceiling fan, with the blades whirring very fast so we can barely see!

Given the very intentional 'midcentury' direction of the room,  I think the fan is not enhancing.  It's interesting they went as far as getting specific, period-perfect prints for the throw pillows, but stuck an anachronistic (at least, I think it's not right for the period, but could be wrong) fan in the room.  But that would be an easy fix.

@Oznell   Personally, I prefer to stay with one style and take it all the way home!  Also, my style is not my husband's style.  Trying to combine styles is something I  don't ever want to do again!  I am happy with my new sofa and pillows but having lots of trouble finding decorative objects that fit both styles.  The vase I ordered had to go back. It looked way too modern and was much bigger than I imagined. I have bare spots all over my room and, honestly, I feel overwhelmed.

@Oznell  Got to read only as far as your question about the ceiling "bullet" fixture;  I'll hazard a guess that is a fan that was running while the photo was taken so you don't see the fan's blades.

So I took another look at this and decided that while I still don't like it, at all, if I got rid of the awful coffee table, the side table, the fan, the blue print and that splayed leg chair I might, possibly be able to work with the rest. I wouldn't necessarily want to, but it could be possible... Smiley Very Happy

I don't like any of the art work at all....and what is that strange silver cylinder hanging from the ceiling?!?!?!?  The room looks like part of a set from a 50's/early 60's sitcom......

The fireplace is nice but everything else looks institutional.

Oh, I'm sorry that your room project is having some snags, @jubilant .   It sounded like it was coming together so nicely, but I agree, the details can sometimes be tricky.

I'm sure if you pace yourself, and keep looking, you'll be happy with the result, eventually.  If you are mostly doing online looking, now that you know what sizes of objects are best for the room, you can do searches by size, as well as type of object, color, etc.  You are right-- scale is so important.  And of course, searches by what your design style is--   i.e.  if you are looking for a lamp,  you can search "rustic 24 inch terra cotta lamp", or whatever.   At least you'll be able to keep narrowing things down to what you exactly like, I expect.   Good luck, @jubilant !

@Oznell   Thank you for the advice.  I do think I  need to pace myself and just wait for the right thing to come along.  I'm getting impatient.

Now that DH and I have our two shots and it's been two weeks since the last one, I'm hoping to get to a big antique shop not too far from us. Also, they have opened up 3 or 4 new shops in our little town that look very promising.  One shop will even paint furniture for you or have you come in and show you how to paint your own by walking you through the process.  I may do that. I've seen some of the pieces people have done and they are beautiful. It sure would save me some money.

Thanks again for acknowledging my frustration and being helpful to those of us in need of advice on the home forums.  I appreciate it and have learned much from you and others here.
