Best way to clean a ceramic tile floor

I need help here. I tried washing the bathroom floor with a water/soap pad on a mop handle. This left a soapy residue and just moved the dirt around from one place to another. I tried a water microcloth mop. That worked but I had to pull off the dirt with my fingers so I could wash the cloth in the washing machine. There must be a better way! Suggestions appreciated.
