Benjamin Moore Names “Simply White” Its 2016 Color of the Year

Benjamin Moore, North America’s favorite paint, color and coatings brand, today announced its highly anticipated 2016 Color of the Year – Simply White OC-117. The company also unveiled Color Trends 2016, a corresponding palette of 23 colors to illustrate how white works within the color spectrum.

I love white interiors and thought this was interesting. LINK to story.

What really fascinated me is how they've made WHITE PAINT feel like "news."

Not a fan of white walls, particularly how regular people do it - you know, white walls, one picture per wall, and brown furniture.

I do like it when it is paired with color and flair, like the photo in the OP, but I'd need a decorater to help me with that.

Hurrah!  I want to have my condo painted all the way through.  It's main room is white, but it hasn't been refreshed in years and the two bedrooms I had painted with colors more than 10 years ago, I now want to return to white, so this news is good news for me.

I will definitely compare BM's white to others and make a decision soon.  Nice to know I might even be "in fashion" again.

I know so many people don't like white walls (and really when I use the term 'white' it covers a lot of shades that to my eye, look white, or whitish) but I've always liked the clean slate it provides. I'm not into stark, stark white for walls, but something in the white family. I've tried color on walls, and I find it too darkening for rooms, makes them small, and requires careful choice in what else you put in the room, especially fabrics and prints.

The older I get, the more light I need, and white(ish) walls really help with making a room seem bright and open, and in lending to changing the colors of accent pieces for seasonal decor or lifestyle changes.

That's a beautiful photo in the OP.  I wish there were more in the article.  I think if I had a home by the ocean or the sea, I would want to do it in all white.  I'm big on style matching the environment.  Frank Lloyd Wright always made sure that his designs fit within the environment in which they would live, and I've always taken that to heart.  If I ever move to the suburbs, I would definitely do a Transitional or Country French style home, and I dream of owning a cabin in the woods with a Rustic style.  I guess I have to add a beach house all in white to my list now.  For the moment, my modern home in the heart of an urban, downtown arts district suits me and my environment just fine.

I agree with them, why not white?

My friend who is an interior decorator redid her house over the past year and when I saw it I was stunned by it. So soft and beautiful. She painted all her walls white, painted the trim in the rooms that had been white to match the colors of the rooms. Her living room/dining room area is white walls and ceilings, powder blue wood trim, powder blue rug over a light ash wood floor, and light camel tan furniture with pillows that are all blue, white and camel. Her kitchen is all white but she painted the a cabinets and trim soft butter yellow, same idea in the family room with a soft seafoam green color. It gives her house a very cottage feel, and is really pretty. Even her artwork is now all in soft watercolors. The only thing I was not fond of was that the only unpainted wood in the house are the floors. All furniture, and all wood trim is painted.

I love white walls, but I love color as well, so if my walls were white, I would definitely accent with lots of color!!!!!!All white is too boring for me! It looks very pretty in the right type of room or house, but for me personally I like color!

"Soft white" vs "stark white"

The color I chose long ago is a shade that is the color of "pickled pine."

It is neither "warm" nor "cool" and it has been easy to live with.

I like colors that are so light it created a "mist" effect over your eyes and makes the room seem vast....the picture is so pretty...
