Re: Bedroom design question.

We have a dual brass swing arm light fixture over the headboard. Above that is a large oblong window where we have two large giraffes and two unique green vases so that the light is wonderful as it comes through the glass.

Re: Bedroom design question.

Whatever you decide to use, please keep in mind that it will be a dust collector. If you have allergies as I do, I would steer away from anything that cannot be cleaned/dusted easily. Good luck and have fun.

How about a wreath or a swag of some sort!

That's what we have over our bed -- a floral swag. You can choose a design with silk or dried florals that harmonizes with the colors and style of your bedding and decor. They're lightweight, relatively inexpensive, easy to hang, and you can find (or make) numerous sizes and styles.

There really are endless things you can use to fill the space above a bed: arrangements of decorative plates, salvaged architectural elements, draped fabric, stenciled designs, artwork, you name it.

Those beautifully arrangements of plates in lolakimono's post above have set my mind whirling. I don't know if I'm smart enough to work out such artful, balanced arrangements -- but I collect old plates, and I love the look! Such an installation would look great over a bed, a chest or other piece of furniture, or on a wall just about anywhere. Of course, I've seen lots of plate hangings and have a few antique plates displayed in my home now -- but those closely arranged plates are really nice! Zowie.

Re: Bedroom design question.

I would have to ask what style of design and what kind of furniture is in the room, what look you want to achieve first? Country, elegant, modern. Recently I spied a Longnarrow mirror at a flea market it was framed in small reclaimed tin tiles . It was ivory mostly, distressed. . It would be perfect in a bedroom over a bed and could easily take on different looks depending on your bedroom accessories . I am not a fan of swags/wreaths as they are quick to accumulate dust as others have mentioned. Frankly, I'm not a fan of group pictures as well, to me they're too formal for the bedroom. I have three windows in my bedroom, two on each side and one behind my high backboard which covers the window. For the narrow walls in between the two side windows. I have battery operated sconces.
