@Twins Mom.  Are you speaking of a bath where the toilet is with the shower so it gets soaking wet?  I've used one of those and never again.

I've only seen this set up in an RV.  I used it once....never again.

Both of our RV's have a real tub/ shower and seperate toilet.

In my dreams I would have one room with a toilet and sink, a different room with a shower and sink, a different room with sink, large counter and mirror.

Crowding three functions into one room leads to lack of privacy.

Our master bathroom has a separate water closet with a door.  It is convenient. (It's also a large bathroom which is rather necessary to achieve the goal.)

I am in my 60s. I have lived in both older and newer apartments and houses that are small to medium sized with smaller bathrooms.

I have never had a separate enclosed room with a door for the toilet. The toilet always was next to the vanity and usually faced the tub/shower. Some places I lived in had a partial wall between the toilet and vanity.

As a child we had one bathroom for 9 people! Only in an emergency did someone want to use the toilet while someone else was in the tub or shower. We're family so we dealt with that. I remember when we added a half bath with a toilet and sink. That helped a lot!

@catter70

About 28  years ago saw builder whose homes all had separate primary toilet room.  Also had large walk in closets.  Tub and shower open to sink areas.

Re: Bathroom Configurations

[ Edited ]

I've always marveled at the young couples on those "house hunting" shows who complain about the size of the bathrooms or lack of 2 sinks...

They always say there isn't "enough room for both of us to get ready at the same time."

I am old.  I am blessed to have indoor plumbing.  I have lived in a house without it.  One thing, however, you did have privacy in the toilet and hopefully a nice path to it.

So, I am happy with a nice bathroom, whether the toilet is in the open with the sink and shower and tub, has a little wall by it, or is in it's own room with door.

I've had all three kinds and never found it to be an issue.  We've never had issues with one, two, two and a half or  three  and a half baths for two people either.
