It certainly provides additional light for a basement stairway. I like the airy feeling it gives. Assume there is a sturdy bannister on the right-hand side for safety. Perhaps those bamboo pieces have metal rods through them for reinforcement and safety protection in the event of falls.

It's a different look but not for me, the area is too stark and the bamboo divider doesn't help.

I'm in the middle....certainly don't love it and don't hate it either.

I like bamboo, but I don’t like how it’s used here. Looks odd to me.
