This is going to be long but I appreciate anyone listening. It will also serve to lower my BP a little.
I ordered an item on-line from the big Home D-improvement store. (Can I be sued for libel if I name them? I don't know.) We couldn't use it. Never took it out of the box. I called Customer Service and they said no problem, you can return it at your local Home D-improvement store.
Left early this a.m. to avoid crowds. Stepped up to the Returns counter. No one there. I asked a bored or angry looking person sitting, doing nothing, at a desk if there was someone here. She said yes, in a few minutes. Five minutes. Ten minutes. Finally someone ambled on over very slowly. She said, oh you need to go over THERE, and pointed to the Customer Service desk. Walked on over. No one there. I asked the same bored person if someone was there. She reluctantly picked up the phone and paged someone. Five minutes. Ten minutes. Finally someone slowly, slowly ambled on over as if I had disturbed their sleep in the middle of the night.
I handed her my receipts and she started fiddling with the computer for what seemed like ages. She finally said, the system won't let me in. I can give you a store credit. I said I didn't want a store credit. I wanted a refund. She fiddled with the computer some more with no luck. I asked to speak to the Manager. She called the Manager and had a private conversation with him when I expected to speak to the Manager directly myself. She hung up the phone and repeated I can either get a store credit or come back tomorrow. She also suggested that I call the store before I come to make sure the system is up.
I calmly took out a piece of paper and a pen. I asked her for the Manager's name and her name. I wrote the date and time. She called the Manager again in a private conversation. She came back to the desk, opened up the register and gave me a refund.
I don't believe for one minute that any system was down. I truly believe that these employees are trained not to give customers refunds AT ALL COST. I spent 40 minutes in an empty Home D-improvement store to get a refund of $25 stinkin' dollars. I will never shop there again.
Don't let these employees bully you or pull the wool over your eyes. Demand action.
Thanks for listening and I hope everyone has a much better day than mine started out.
