I loooove the Charisma bath towels from Costco.  Only 6.99 each and are thick and oversized. The downsize on them are they take longer to dry in the dryer.

Another vote for Lands End.  A little pricey, but wash and wear great

I'm gonna be odd man out on this one.

I can't find new towels that I like. Oh, I find plenty that are beautiful, but I can't stand the way they feel and dry the body. I have tried cheap towels, I have tried expensive towels. I have tried  100% cotton and cotton blends. I hate microfiber. Nothing new suits me.

I scour thrift stores and auctions for vintage towels from the 1980's or before. I have quite a large supply that I have picked up over the years, and there is just something about the terry used back then, and the 'weave' (if that is the right term) that feels natural on the body and really absorbs water. They don't pull and come loose at the seams like the newer ones, and last literally for decades of regular use.

I have lots of matching sets (and had I known back then that towels would change so much, I would have invested in another closet full while they still made them that way), and many that are single pieces or partial sets, but I'll not trade them for any of the new stuff.

I have had good luck with a Target brand...I think it is called Threshold....not to thick or thin.....I purchased a 'designer' brand at Kohls, they are very heavy, so now I know what to look for instead of just looking at how 'nice looking' they are!

I've used Hotel Collection from Macy's for years and they are awesome. If you get them during a One Day Sale, they are a great price and they last forever. Wouldn't use any other...they are that good.

@grandma petes

I totally agree: mine have been in use since 2001 and are still going strong.  The color is still perfect...found a washcloth that had fallen behind stuff in the linen closet and took it out to compare the color match.

i know that the caution is to not use fabric softener in the rinse cycle but I use a very, very small amount diluted and am very happy with the absorbency factor
