My friend who is an interior decorator was recently widowed. She decided to sell their house- which was too large for one person - and moved into a condo. She sent me a video of how she decorated it in all autumn colors - rust - brown - sage greens - golds -- all the colors you think of when you think of fall. The LR rug has a design on it - all different color leaves against an ivory background then she has a brown sectional sofa. On the windows - she has a lot of windows - she has venitian blinds then lace curtains in a trellis pattern with a lot of leaves all over. The kitchen is done with sage green walls and a light tan granite and ivory cabinets. There are 1 1/2 baths both with beige ceramic tile and she painted above the tile in both a dusty rust color and a much brighter rust color rug in them. She did her bedroom in plum color.(think dark berry color)Very feminine and pretty. Since she has a lot of different colors she used them sparingly with a nice neutral Ivory throughout, and she painted the wood trim a darker more taupe color to make it contrast. Even though I love all the colors of fall I would never have been bold enough to decorate a whole apartment in those colors. I noticed a lot of oranges and golds and greens in the art work she chose which really brings home the color scheme. I guess that is why she gets paid to do this - She plans to work from home now so she will be seeing clients there. It is very feminine and pretty but also those colors have a vibrancy to them.

It's not my style. The colors probably make her happy.

I think it will be very cheerful in the doldrums of winter when everything is so grey and dull and dirty looking outside.

Those are definitely my colors too. Warm and inviting - no matter what season!!!

Those are my home colors as well but I have what I call a small country cottage. Those are my colors for fall and winter fashions also.

THis sounds beautiful. I don't think I could pull off what she did without some professional help with the colors, but I'd love to take the plunge to try something like that.

Our camper (AKA summer home ) is decorated by the manufacturer in all neutrals - brown, ecru, olive green, black. So she was telling me from the beginning to try to put some bright fall colors in there. She brought me some placemats with a lot of red & green and she also picked out a picture for on the wall of a local old mill beside a waterfall that was taken in the fall and is all the colors on the trees. So apparently she has had this color scheme in her head for a while.

I think the key to her design is the neutral ivory background throughout and the use of those colors in small doses. Large items like the sofa and the curtains are neutral. She has a tiny kitchen with little wall space and an adjoining breakfast room. There is an island in the kitchen. She painted the bottom of the island and the walls of the kitchen sage green then got a sage green rug for the breakfast room. The walls in the breakfast room are ivory. The kitchen cabinets are also ivory.
If I tried to do this it would probably turn out garish but she used softened colors in her paint plus the use of the same ivory background throughout pulls it off.

Sounds similar to my style. The drapes I made, the rug, and the pillows even have a leaf design in the fabric. The nice thing with the color palette is that many of the colors are neutral in a way and you can expand using other colors and they go okay. The one thing I do is add some black to every room. I read somewhere that each room needs some back to "ground" it. For instance, my area rug has a black background.
