If I was a guest, I can definitely do "moody". However, for my day to day living, I need more light and airiness.

Green isn't my favorite color but I do love this kitchen. I'd probably prefer it for a mountain vacation rental but I'd still take it for my personal kitchen too.

I love it. I am not a fan of open shelving though. I'd use this shelves for my cookbook collection.
Bright kitchens and bedrooms are not my thing. I am always looking for ways way to block the sun out. The sun ruins the finishes on wood floors, carpeting, cabinetry and window treatments and makes the room too hot.

Even though I do like white bright kitchens, I love this one too. I would call it cozy and comforting rather than moody. I don't like the bulbs on the chandelier but like the iron part.
Yesterdays picture you showed I thought was moody but liked the bookcase and the color of it very much. I agreed with others it did need some light and brightening up.
Some friends of ours have their dining room painted a dark navy blue and it is so striking and elegant.
Their living room and kitchen is light and bright with lots of windows to the sun. Just to say I guess we can like both.
I like both the pictures you showed @faeriemoon!

I would have trouble reading from a cookbook or recipe card.

I kept looking at this kitchen trying to see something I liked. Didn't come up with anything. Thought about the fireplace maybe but I have stone in my kitchen and prefer that to old brick.

Love it, warm, cozy and always welcoming!
I much prefer this as opposed to the boring white-on-white kitchens. This kitchen, though modern and new, beckons to times past and welcomes the comfort of friends imho.

I love everything about it, except for the open shelves and the uncomfortable-looking bar stools.

I think it looks like the witches from "Hocus Pocus" could be brewing something up any minute!
Looking out the window, it's a bright, sunny day. Inside? Dark and overcast. Not to mention I'd need a stepladder to access most of those shelves. Easy pass for me.

The correct glass in the windows solves the problems of fading finishes on woods and textiles, as well as keeping the heat (or cold) from entering a comfortable home. We changed all our windows in this house to ensure those concerns. It has worked wonders on the energy bills as well!
