Anything Gray In the Home is Absolutely Gone?

[ Edited ]

I was reading an article in the Sunday paper and it said:

"These days, so much is changing in tastes. For example, anything gray is absolutely gone, and that includes gray walls, window coverings and tile floring. Warm, bright colors, tans, golds and whites have replaced all the grays that came in during the 1990's.  Particulary for young buyers, gray colors remind them of cloudy days, of prison cells and that sort of thing.  What's especially the kiss of death for buyers, is gray flooring."

Oh my.....I guess when anyone young comes to visit me their going to feel like their living ia a "prison cell"!   I have gray walls in my living room and silver carpet!

What are your thoughts on the color of gray on walls and flooring?

I like it.

My home is decorated to my and my husband's liking.

@BunSnoop

When I remodeled in 2018 including removing carpet and changing out to hardwoods and whole house interior paint I stayed with warmer tones.  Bisque to light coffee colored walls and medium brown wide plank hardwoods.

Grays were a current trend at the time for walls, flooring and accessories.  It was a personal preference to go with warmer tones on the larger surfaces, the grays felt too cold.  I did want some cooler tones / gray as to keep it fresh so added grays in accessories.  And black and white for fun too.  I did change out all the old round brass doorknobs and opted for modern nickel handles.

You can warm up your area with accessories including pillows, throws, new lighting and door handles.  Kind of opposite of what I did but those items make a big difference.

I've stayed away from grays for the reasons stated - cloudy, prison - so I'm glad to see this color trend finally change and to see more options in stores.

I am likely the wrong person to ask about the gray trend.

First, anything that is such a huge trend in all things is going to have a certain "shelf life."  Second, living in a cooler climate like New England, too much gray would be depressing in darker days.

With the exception of my bathrooms, all my walls are off-white.  I have warmth in my home with wood floors, patterned rugs, many accessories, etc.  My home was decorated many years back, and we are still fine with it.  Perhaps not in the latest style, tweaked once in a while, but it makes us happy.

Just another silly article...there's all shades of gray & it will never be gone.

We recently painted our kitchen cabinets a light gray and the wall a charcoal gray.  We will be having new floor installed soon.  After looking at the oak cabinets for almost 30 years, I LOVE my gray cabinets and wall.  Working on choosing an accent color.

There must be a LOT of people with "memories of prison"  ....

@msgb This is totally off the subject, but I just wanted to say how nice it was to see someone using the correct grammar.  I often see others putting an apostrophe on the word "I" and it drives me nuts.  Example:  "They came to Larry and I's house."  Really?  What elementary school is teaching that? Well, because we live near the beach, we redo in a coastal, light style.  Just redid our downstairs flooring about 2 years ago in light grey LVP.  It's beautiful and opens up the house.  Walls are a light blue/grey.  Furniture that was replaced or painted is white.

No carpet in my house. Upstairs, oak hardwood in a light maple color.  It's more formal up there and was done when I was into antique furnishings.  Which I now do not like and am trying to get rid of it. No one wants it so to Habitat it goes.

Third floor, no carpet.  Put the same grey LVP up there.  Our peloton equipment is up there as it is our home gym.

I have found that everything goes around and comes back.
