Hey. no judgment here.  Whatever helps your back, I am all for.  I did enjoy sleeping on a waterbed, especially in the winter.  That toasty warm bed was great.  Belileve it or not, I had my waterbed when I still lived at home.  My parent's had the one you described.  I had a more modest style with a bookshelf and the drawers underneath.  Then one fine day, I moved on to a futon in my first apartment.  Talk about culture shock! LOL!

We would probably still have that waterbed too ... except after we  got married we moved to a place that didn't allow waterbeds. Then when we inherited my in-laws home my husband wanted to go w/ a waterbed and I discussed the weight of bed and hardwood floors--what if there was a water leak, etc., hoping he wouldn't go that route. Mainly because at the time all the frames were oak, etc., and I just did not like the look. But ITA, that bed was so warm and toasty in the winter time and felt great on my back. If we had that conversation today, not sure I would push back. I'm now at the point where I go w/ comfort over style more times than not.

And LOL on futons. OMG ... those things were not comfortable at all to sleep on for any length of time. And every man I knew had one in their living room. Snort. It was just a given at the time. Oh the '80s!

We have hard wood floors and have never had a leak, etc.

The king size we've had for over 10-12 years in the same spot!

The queen sized hard side we've had for probably 8-10 years.

Besides loving how cozy warm they are in winter, they also are very cooling in the hot humid summers we have here in the South......just turn the heater off, LOL!

Oh I know the chances of a leak were small to non-existent, I was just using whatever excuse I could because I really, really did not want that waterbed platform & headboard. The house we inherited is over 120 years old and my huband loves the floors, yadda yadda. I would go w/ a waterbed now, but I'm not going to volunter that information to my husband. Haha.

That is a complete replica of my Aunt Bea's living room in the eraly 70's........OMG what a blast from the past.  I can still remember her playing the 45 on her record player "build me up buttercup"  and all us kids would be dancing up a storm!  She was my funnest Aunt, God rest her soul.   And @Queen of shop  I remember those pleated curtains with the hooks, thanks for the laugh Smiley Happy

Oh my goodness, my mother had a similar coffee table from Ethan Allen.  It weighed as much as a Lincoln Continental.

@HonestLife

After commenting yesterday that this room reminded me of my in-laws living room in the mid 70's, guess who I dreamed about all night long!

Worst nights sleep I've had in a very long time!
