Re: Anyone else out there like just the 'base model' of things?

I buy what suits my needs, which is usually the no frills item. I am getting ready to remodel my kitchen after 33 years in this house, and my contractor is quite surprised at my choices. I know I want new, nice, and better function in my kitchen, and have made appropriate choices for that, but I am not going overboard on the latest and greatest. I have thought about my choices for years and am content with my decisions.

I request permission to live vicariously through you! I am in dire need of a kitchen remodel. It is original 1973, and not good quality at that. It was not treated well by the previous owners, and is not only outdated and ugly, but lacking in function and falling apart.

I have other obligations that make a new kitchen not attainable at this time, so I'd like to enjoy and be excited through you. You are approaching much how I would. I don't need top of the line stainless steel appliances and granite counter tops, but would be so appreciative of a moderate upgrade in cabinets, counters, flooring, lighting etc.

So congrats to you! I'm excited that if I can't have that right now, that someone who will appreciate it is getting such a great thing! Have fun and enjoy!

I don't need all the bells and whistles. I never use them anyway.

Keurig is a perfect example of something that works well in its most basic form, but seems to have problems the fancier they try to make it.

ITA with this. I love my Keurig, but I bought a B-40, which is really the basic full size, 1 step up from the mini. I've had it for a year and a half..no trouble at all.

I'm probably mid-range plus quality. I no longer want ice or water dispenser on my fridge. Something always goes wrong. Use bottled water and buy ice at grocery store. Besides, I have the recipe and know how to make ice!

Me too, purified water and ice made with purified water..it's just me, so it's not like i'm trying to keep a big family supplied.

LOL at the recipe for ice{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Re: Anyone else out there like just the 'base model' of things?

The vehicles I buy tend to be bells and whistles- I'm really short, so I need the electric seat that goes forward and up, so I've gotten options like sunroofs that go with electric everything; now my dad always drove the second (older) car to work, and all he cared about was an am/fm radio and a/c.

I upgraded on my laptop- I love a 17.5 inch screen.

Washers and dryers can be basic- if i lived in a more mild climate and was home during the day, I'd hang clothes on a clothesline.

I have a T3 dryer- the high pitch of most dryers hurts my ears and fries my hair.

I have a KA mixer, but it's 4.5 quart-

I don't have a dishwasher- only had them when I was in college living in apartments.

My splurge? cable tv- I don't have movie channels, but I love Music First, so I had to upgrade packages with Comcast.

If I traveled a lot, I'd consider Sirius Satellite radio- I love music.

I dream of owning a Bose.

I prefer a sirloin steak over prime rib

I always choose fountain diet pepsi with a lot of crushed ice over a bottle.

For cars, I prefer a healthy horsepower, but I nullify that with a stick shift...

I live in an all-electric home in the desert, and I prefer appliances that take the least electricity.
