You can plant them in the ground outdoors........

I never got one this year, but my mom got a small one, and while it's lost some leaves it still has a lot of healthy greens and a pretty red flower going strong...still looks seasonal out with her valentine decorations.
Suggestions for something new...I sent a peace lily to someone over Christmas and she loves it...says it keeps blooming new flowers. She sent me a picture of it, and like you said, she too keeps it on her kitchen table. This particular one came in a white angel vase. After she sent the pic, I've thought about getting one for myself.

I still have two- one in the living room, near a window and heating vent, the other on the kitchen table. Going strong, especially the one in the LR.
Last year I had one until the first freeze- almost a full year. They are tropical plants, so I left it outdoors all summer and forgot to take it in on the first cold night. Did not have the heart to pitch such a great plant! BTW, I always buy my poinsettias on Black Friday at Home Depot $0.99 each, regularly $5.00.

I have two poinsettias still in bloom.
They are in the sunroom. I don't think they lasted this long last year.

@Harpa Want to replace mine as well, but am in fear once I touch it, all the leaves will fall off causing a disaster for my floor. It looks pretty good and is easy to water so I will have to bite the bullet.

I put one of our poinsettias on our porch and it still looks beautiful. Amazing.

I kept wondering what that pink thing was on top of the compost heap. Frost finally took it down. I pitched it just last week.

My poinsettia, which was given to me as a gift, lived for 7 days. 7 days.

They often look nice through Valentine's Day. I can imagine after four months you'd like to get rid of it. Perhaps a springtime bouquet can replace it.

HI HOMEGIRL!--I read about you putting out your mini pumpkins--I put my big pumpkin out in the yard after the fall--I remember my daughter had squirrls eating that pumpkin--mine never touched it but I remember one year the seeds took hold and I had a pumpkin vine and some pumpkins from it--I see it in the garden all deflated now but I think I am going to get my shovel out of the shed and cover the seeds with dirt and see if they sprout--it's fun to see that happen--mary in nj
