Re: Anyone Have A Floating Floor Installed?

[ Edited ]

Thanks, everyone, for your replies.  I know that cork is easy on the legs and feet but had no idea about a cork backing.  That is now on the list.  Since my whole house is hardwood, I am not looking for the hardwood look in the kitchen, but more of a tile look.

The first place that we went to insisted that we only wanted glue-down flooring instead of interlocking.  I really have no idea.

The company that we probably are going with, but we are still looking, has a 5-star rating and the owner does the install along with his crew.  I have met his main person and really think that I would be in good hands.  Of course, you just never know.

@SXMGirl      I have a floating floor in my bathroom....individual tiles with grout, but the grout is permanent and does not need replaced, grout is dark brown....the tile was purchased at Menards about 4 years ago.

One reason I picked that tile was because the original flooring was not going to come up 'evenly' and the floating floor allowed for variance.  The floor looks as good today as when it was put down, as well as the grout.

Can anyone tell me their opinions of glue-down vs. interlocking?  The first place that we went to insisted that glue was much better.

Re: Anyone Have A Floating Floor Installed?

We have the floating floor in our kitchen and dining area.  Installed ourselves 8 years ago and never had a problem.  After peeling up vinyl flooring I won't put down anything that requires glue again.

My MIL on the other hand had the flooring installed and it came apart in one area.  Someone came removed the entire flooring and put it down again.  Once again coming apart in the same area.  In her case I believe it is due to the floor joists underneath and the floor itself just being uneven.

Re: Anyone Have A Floating Floor Installed?

@SXMGirl   Our floating kitchen floor is an earth friendly product called Marmoleum. You can get this in 12x12 tiles, solids or with a marbled look, and in one sheet cut to fit. We've had our's for probably 10 years now, maybe even a bit longer. We chose 3 colors of the marbled look in a dark grey, a light grey and a brick red. They look great together, wear well, easy to clean, easy install which was done by 2 guys we know who do home re-dos, upgrades etc.

I do use a product from amazon that's made for marmoleum. I clean it a spin mop. This product is a 2-step, one wash, one rinse with clean water. It leaves NO streaks, works very well, not expensive, and you don't use that much in a gallon of water.

Re: Anyone Have A Floating Floor Installed?

We are now getting our floor replaced for the third time but this time it will not be the floor the snaps together never ever again. top of the line product and it is junk. When they put the first floor in I said to the installers ''do you really think this is going to stand up and last for us"? His reply sure will '' well within two months I could see it was going to come apart and it did. The pieces that snap and fit together started to break long story short it took a war with the manufactuer to concede that it had to be replaced. Then this January it was replaced with another floor snap together again we were told they put this in commerical buildings with no problems well here we are it was not even six months and same issue. This time the dealer came out and said'' Wow this is a mess it has to come up and be replaced''

so here we are waiting for the new floor to come in and this time it will be glued down in fact I told him he can nail it down. Our floors are all level and our basement is a full basement is dry they even had a inspector here to check everything out. Good luck to you with what ever you decide to use. All I can say is since they put the same floor in three different areas in our home the whole thing has to be ripped out in order for it to look right.

Re: Anyone Have A Floating Floor Installed?

We had a floating floor (glued down) installed in the living room, dining room, hallway and my all purpose room. It's fantastic! The brand that we purchased is WilsonArt whiich i no longer available. This floor still looks new after 10+ years. It has a 25 year life span.

We are now ready to tackle the lower level. The wall to wall needs to go. I'm leaning toward the Pergo Outlast brand. I'm not sure which specific one I'll select because there are 3 or 4 Outlast choices. Budget has a lot to do with it. Reviews seem to be good on the Pergo and the warranty seems to be decent.

We have a large older home and lots of floor space. The lower level is in constant use with us, the dogs, the patio entrance, etc. My first preference was large tile or stone but that's way out of the budget. I'm hoping to find Pergo in the same look or some wider planks. I'll still use my area rugs around the seating areas because I like that look.
