Any advice: carpet replacement...Help!

The carpet in our townhome needs to be replaced. Believe it or not, I have never had to have carpet replaced in a home I was living in. I would appreciate any advice from you on prepping the house to the actual installation and costs, etc. Thank you so much everyone! K
