If I was thinking that vacuuming stairs would be a bit much as I aged I'd seriously think of looking for a single story condo. Going up and down stairs as the years go by can become difficult. Plus, knees and hips act up and stairs are the pits!!

I have hardwood stairs from the rec room to the living area. I like to hear someone coming up the stairs so that I know they are home, and so I won't be startled. I also have hardwood through my home and none of it is slippery. The key on stairs no matter what they are made of is to watch where you step.

Whatever you do Do Not put laminate on stairs. Our neighbors have that and those stairs are scary slippery. We have hardwood going up to bedrooms,no problem but noisy. Carpet down to family room..pain to keep clean. Hope you're happy with your choice.
