@Roscoe the Rascal I feel the same way that you do! I'd rather just spend time with my family and friends. Going out for a bite to eat is nice. Doesn't have to be a fancy-schmancy restaurant. Even a cookout at home is great. But there are always lots of freebie exhibits and inexpensive events in my area, too. It's the time together that is the best gift. 😀

Yes, I have received a few gifts that were not 'me'.
My girlfriends exchanged gifts, birthday mostly for years. I finally said I was done with birthdays and if they wanted to carry on that was fine with me, but leave me out...the other ladies were thrilled to stop the gift exchange except one of them.
That particfular friend would come to my house for Chirstmas so we had been exchanging Christmas gifts as well...I suggested stopping that a few years ago. Relucently she agreed...now at every possible opportunity she will mention that she misses that. I just keep my mouth shut but she knows that none of us want anymore stuff....

I graciously accept any gift as a thoughtful gesture on the part of the giver. If I truly will not use it, it is donated to our local thrift and gift where the money is always donated to local charities.

Yes, I need and want nothing. A few we still gift, but a gift card to a place I KNOW the go to. Or a candy or coffee or tea I know they like.
A lot of people love candles. I love a good candle, have bought very few in my life. Last year before I retired, I took probably 25 candles to work and let everyone help themselves. All gifted. Some scents bother me, some do not.
I know I have given travel cups. After moving and finding my 12 travel mugs, I've decided I'm no longer ever buying them as a gift.
I cherish a lunch out or an afternoon with a friend.
Someone gifted me a Lennox Christmas figurine for almost 15 years. I kept one, the rest went in the vets box. Very sad, I know she spent a lot on them.
Something I gift a few older friends, is postage stamps. They seem to love them, are useful, and they seem to appreciate them. Some don't have email, and they send lots of cards and notes.
