If you're really curious, you can address your question to the Del Webb Co. BTW, where I live was the 4th best active adult community in the nation in 2015. No. 1 was the Villages where the sinkholes are opening up now.

Some active adult communities are owned by big corporations like ELS or Jensen etc. Some are owned by private individuals. So they all have different rules and prices and types of people. Before moving into one, we lived in a regular neighborhood. We had neighbors that let their teenagers play basketball in front of our yard and stomp down our grass and plants. They hit our metal garage door with baseballs and dented it. The other neighbors put his dogs in his back yard when he went to work so they could bark all day. The other neighbors had a bonfire out in back yard and we woke up to flakes of embers on our car. No consideration for neighbors. You don't have to put up with all that in a senior community. Most are from the generation that believed in the golden rule. Also they require background checks so you know you are not living next to a felon. I guess you have to check out the individual community and ask a lot of questions. Also walk around the community and see how friendly people are. Friendly is not nosey.

She refuses to admit the existence of active adult communities and refuses to admit that they are nothing like assisted living. I don't understand why but so be it."

Wow, all this over my saying I don't want to live in an adult community and am perfectly happy where I am?????????? Some of you sure are resistant to people with different opinions.

We aren't being "touchy" - you are being incorrect and dense. It is a shame that people post things they know nothong about and swear they know it's true - when it simply isn't.

My BFF and her hubs live in Sun City in AZ , in a 2 bedroom condo. It is great. They love it. They bought theirs out right so only have the monthly HOA fees to pay and tiny prob taxes. The rec centers are to die for--all modern and with the latest equipment and out door facilities are amazing They have access to all the rec enters in the area. They pay no taxes for schools and all medical centers and doctors, clinics are within blocks of them. Plus the weather is stellar all year round. And shopping is to die for!!! Lots of transportation provided too. We stay with them every time we visit which is at least 1x a year. Freeways are easier to navigate but the drivers scare the be jeezus outta me. Lots of natural attractions to see too. But it is hot---and I have trouble with the intense heat so I would have to take that into consideraion. Of course everything has A/C. Will be making a decision to move in about 5 years when hubby retires-------

Your friends must be in the original Sun City that was built in the late 50's or early 60's in Phoenix. We looked at it when we were just beginning to consider an over 55 community upon retirement and I believe that is the only one in the country that doesn't pay school taxes.
