Nothing!!! It's all a dust collector plus it's way too much clutter IMO. I'm not climbing up a ladder every week to clean up there. LOL!!!

IMO the cabinets need to go to the ceiling or there needs to be a bulk head of some sort so there is no huge opening up there to collect dust.

@Nightowlz

 IMO it's not a "dust collector" if you clean it regularly, any more than any other area of the home.  Whether or not the area is cluttered depends on the design arrangement when you do it.  I used washable cupboard liners in my soffit area and replaced them on a routine basis, and cleaned/dusted/rearranged all items there.  The liners also provided a soft cushion for items in that space.  My area was not cluttered.

We have pillows above our cabinets. Our cats love napping up there.

@Oostende, I have mostly very pretty large cake stands with covers, apothecary jars on top of my cabinets, with a couple items added in for color. I am thinking about putting light strands in the cake stands and apothecary jars. I have those mini-light battery operated strands already, just haven't done it yet. I also have some antique Chinese ginger jars that are colorful and some old English biscuit tins that I could use up there, but I don't want to have to clean the grease film off them too, lol.

@Snicks1.  I use the battery operated mini lights sold on the Q. They are on timers and add warmth to the kitchen at night.

Re: Above the Kitchen Cabinets

I guess it's just me, but I would have nothing up there. A simple look and you won't have to worry about getting up there to clean and dust very often!!
