Re: Above the Kitchen Cabinets

@Oostende, I have mostly very pretty large cake stands with covers, apothecary jars on top of my cabinets, with a couple items added in for color. I am thinking about putting light strands in the cake stands and apothecary jars. I have those mini-light battery operated strands already, just haven't done it yet. I also have some antique Chinese ginger jars that are colorful and some old English biscuit tins that I could use up there, but I don't want to have to clean the grease film off them too, lol.

Re: Above the Kitchen Cabinets

@Oostende  You may be in the minority here but overall, I doubt it.  Decor wise, I have only one tall vase and some faux greenery, otherwise I need the space for large items that I have no space for below like a 4-piece tall multi-pot, a punch bowl, a footed cake plate, and footed trifle bowls that are seldom used but am not ready to part with.

Re: Above the Kitchen Cabinets

@Free2be You may be right.  I see a lot of decor over kitchen cabinets around my area.  I wondered if maybe it was a generational thing.  I'm 54, and my generation decorated heavily when the kids were home, it seems to me.

Now we are all a big more minimal but not really ready to go too Spartan just yet! Smiley Wink

Re: Above the Kitchen Cabinets

I like the soffit filled in even with the cabinets.  Also prefer very short soffit and very high cabinets.

Nothing  Smiley Happy  All that stuff on there I would not like.  It is all a dust catcher and hard to clean.  Plus too much clutter!

Re: Above the Kitchen Cabinets

I don't want anything on top of my cabinets.  I do not like the clutter.

This might be a helpful tip for those who hate to clean up there:  When we moved in, I scrubbed and scraped grime and dust from the tops of those cabinets.  Once they were clean and dry, I lined the tops with inexpensive  waxed paper.  Now all I have to do is keep it changed regularly.

Strive for respect instead of attention. It lasts longer.
