I seriously cannot find anything that wows me. 

I could always just wall the open space over and take the cabinets up to the ceiling.  That wouldn't be hard.  I'm fairly handy when it comes to woodworking.

I'd rather make it pretty if I can.

What do I like best?  NOTHING.  If stuff if up there, I can assure you there is dust up there.

I could never deal with all that clutter on top of cabinets.

Between the grease and the dust, that would drive me nuts.

I like the cubby style in 2nd kitchen but just the thought of climbing up to remove everything on top of the cabinets, cleaning it & climbing up again to put it all back is a no go for me...it doesn't matter what style it is. I clean the top of my kitchen cabinets every 3 months & dread cleaning the sticky dusty film but it has to be done.

I like nothing above cabinets.  All of that "stuff" are hard-to-reach dust catchers.

Nothing!!! It's all a dust collector plus it's way too much clutter IMO. I'm not climbing up a ladder every week to clean up there. LOL!!!

IMO the cabinets need to go to the ceiling or there needs to be a bulk head of some sort so there is no huge opening up there to collect dust.

I used to have stuff on the top of my cabinets, my collection of cobalt blue glass items.  When we redid our kitchen, we opted to raise our cabinets to the ceiling so now I have more space and no dust gatherers!!

Most of the homes around here have stuff over the cabinets and I just can't find a look that I like either.

After years of having open space above my cabinets, I couldn't wait to have to-the-ceiling cabinets installed! The small top spaces have glass-front doors, and I display some of my ceramic collection there. Only cleaning required is to do the glass once in awhile.
