Re: Abandoned Renaissance Church = Home

I think it is a miss too, but I can't figure out why. Plenty of people have mixed very modern furniture in a very old structure but somehow this doesn't work for me.

I'll take the dogs, thank you.  The rest can remain with the gentleman.

Re: Abandoned Renaissance Church = Home

I've always been fascinated by churches turned into homes, but I'm not sure how I feel about it. About 3 years ago there were two within an hour of us for sale. The smaller one was decorated, but no one had lived in it yet. The larger one had been lived in. The pictures were online. The small one would have room for one or two people (one loft bedroom). The larger one had three bedrooms, two upstairs and one downstairs.

This one is beautiful, but I think it's too cavernous. Also the steps are dangerous! I guess they'd be OK for the guy in the chair, but I wouldn't want to go up and down them!

One of the first "repurposed " old churches I really noticed is now an antique shop -- right next to a big cemetery!  Back then I thought churches should stay churches, but now I'm kind of glad they are used for other things instead of being left alone without any care.

A friend of ours served a church that is now a restaurant. It's a little strange being in his office, but I'm glad they left it alone. The woodwork is beautiful. They don't use it regularly, but it looks the same (without the books everywhere!).   Smiley Happy

I really like the space but very much dislike how it is furnished.

I love this, @lolakimono .  Not quite as much as the French chocolate factory, but close!!!

Adding:  I would re-furnish it.

Re: Abandoned Renaissance Church = Home

It's pretty, but I don't know if I would want to live there.  All the stone is a little too cold for me.  The furnishings are awful, make it seem even colder and I would never climb those stairs w/out a railing.

I think it would be gorgeous if it was refurnished. I really dislike the decor.

It does look like would be cold and damp which would be a negative for sure.

I prefer to leave magnificent, irreplaceable ruins as they are, with restoration as needed for preservation.  The "decor" foisted on this one cries out for an exorcism.

Re: Abandoned Renaissance Church = Home

Definitely not for me. I don't really like the architecture or modern furnishings. It looks too cave like for me. I don't think it's attractive at all. I've seen other churches turned into homes that I like much more.
