Re: ATLANTA KITCHEN

[ Edited ]

@Oznell Yes! Aren't those cabinets so pretty. As soon as I saw your post pictures  I thought of those Martha Stewart kitchen cabinets.

Thank you so much for sharing the story behind your choices.  I see why you used those colors because those cottage inspiration pictures are really lovely.

As for us we went with very light dove gray cabinets and white marble looking quartz as countertops. The grey is so light that if you didn't know any better and depending on the lighting they almost look like a shade of white.

I would be so tempted to use that beautiful mint green on my kitchen cabinets because they just stirred something deep in my soul (haha, going deep here) but my practical mind would have had a hard time committing to a non-neutral color like that.

I've always gone by the rule that one should never pick anything other than a neutral for big ticket items such as kitchen cabinets. Just in case you desire a change in the future and to add color with accessories and paint like you did with your kitchen instead by painting your cabinets in the neutral Grienge and walls in that beautiful pop of color. I looked up your Baby Fawn paint color and that is a beauty. I love your color combo.

Now if I had an island, I would totally without hesitation go with a pop color like that because that could be more easily painted in the future if need be. Actually our master bathroom vanity is a mint green and I do love it.

Well, I'm sorry to hear about your cabinet finish fiasco! I painted our cabinets in our first house's kitchen because they were in great condition and didn't need to be changed. I just didn't like the orange oak color. I painted them a light ivory and then antiqued them with a brown glaze.

My husband was really leary about painting cabinets and wasn't too keen on the idea because he worried about the finish lasting but I tell you that finish was rock solid because I painstakingly sanded, primed and then gave them 4 coats of sealant. It was a ton of work and took me months to finish.

So your guy just sounds like he didn't do it properly, darnit! I know a friend of mine saw my finished kitchen and decided to take on the project herself and hers didn't last either so I think that happens a lot. Good luck with that!

Thanks, It was fun chatting with you about one of my favorite topics.Woman Happy

@GingerHead ,  your pale, pale dove gray and marble-looking white quartz would be so beautiful together.  Light and refreshing.  I love that combination.

You are amazing to tackle your cabinets yourself, but then you have that artistic flair, and did the whole thing right. I'd never be able to do that.  Hubby could, but he just doesn't want to, on top of his demanding job, and I can't say I blame him.  By getting the special "cabinet coat" B. Moore paint, and carefully explaining the prep work required to the painters, he thought they were going to be successful. But it turned out, they blew all that off.  Live and learn!

Always fun, and illuminating, to chat with someone with your honed design propensities- have a great evening!

@Oznell

You could do it. But honestly that kind of grudge work is not fun at all and it took me such a long time because I had to do it part time on weekends and after work.

I don't think I'd want to tackle it again so I don't blame you or your husband for not wanting to!

Hopefully you can get that fixed or have fixed it already.

Have a good nightWoman Happy

Love the green cabinets.  @Oznell, you know I love all the pitchers on display!  I do prefer closed cabinets though.  The fireplace by the pool is really my favorite part!  Thanks for sharing.  I'm trying to downsize on my dishes, and serving pieces.  It's hard!  I love trays and platters.  Even a lot of my beauty products and perfumes are on pretty trays on my dresser.

Although I don't have China sets (my own or passed down) I really love looking and buying different serving pieces.  Polish stoneware, and even great finds at TJM, Home Goods and Marshall's.

Oh, boy, @lynnie61 ,  me too.  Especially, I have a HUGE weakness for pitchers, so I was loving the collection in that kitchen!

Pitchers are such graceful, yet somehow, friendly objects in a space, whether being used or not...  I've had to stop myself from acquiring more than a tiny, tight, but much loved collection that I rotate in and out....

Love the green color in the kitchen. Thinking about going in that direction when I re-do my kitchen, which will be who knows when!  LOL

That's exciting, @JudyL -- if you do reach that point, I hope you'll report back on how you like it!  I just love the color-- it's refreshing in the summer, of course, but especially cheering in the dead of drab winter.  I now love going in my kitchen in the morning...
