ALESSANDRA BRANCA BRINGS THE RED! (TO HER ROOMS)

In decorating, I naturally gravitate to soft, chalky off-pastels, like robin's egg, cream, blush, spring green, etc.  I usually ground these with accents and metals of bronze, black, pewter, patinated brass. (Never met a metal I DON'T like, ha.)

So very little red in my rooms, even though I like red in small hits.  Love glossy red ornaments and berrries at Christmas.  And didn't Dominick Dunne use it well?

Italian-born, U.S.-residing designer Allesandra Branca to me is the master of red.  She loves and uses it in every shade, from fuschia to burgundy to crimson.

I find her use of red sophisticated, strategic, witty.

What a fabulous use of red!  Pleasing to the eye, not overwheling, yet, inviting!  Every time someone mentions red for a room, I, always, think of Diana Vreeland's love of red for her home.  She told Billy Baldwin, she wanted "A Garden from hell".  She go twhat she wanted!  Talk about taking Billy Baldwin out of his comfort zone!dam-images-celebrity-homes-1975-diana-vreeland-diana-vreeland-02.jpg

I love red and all shades thereof.  I have touches of red in every room in my house except for one bathroom and the garage.

@Citrine1and @Somertime,  I think of red lovers like Diana Vreeland and you, @Citrine1,  as being very confident in their choices-- a very appealing quality in decorating!

When absorbed in watching a film, I've often been captivated by sets that incorporate red in some beguiling way.  I then think, gosh, I need to figure out how to get a little more red in my surroundings...  I love it in old rugs, prints and paintings and definitely flowers.  Happy and zingy.

Why thank you @Oznell !  I do, in fact, feel confident in my decorating choices.  My home is very important to me.  It's my favorite place to be and I love the way it looks.  Truth be told, however, I may be the only one who feels this way.  LOL

Most of my family members have very different tastes from me.  I'm mainly country and eclectic while they are more (gasp) modern.  And, as best as I can remember, I'm the only person I know among family and friends who uses red in their decorating.  (I never realized that until just now.  Hmmmm)

Even though some of the furnishings aren’t my style, I like her touches of red. I have red accents in my kitchen, dining, & living rooms to tie those 3 areas together.

@wilma,  and I have a few more red touches than I realized.  When I got back, I went around checking.  Right in front of me in the living room, I have my little three volume set of Dickens with red bindings on an old desk.  The bindings have faded to a kind of mellow Tuscan red, but that still counts!  Also have a large abstract print with some bright slashes of red in it.

The table lamp in the dining room has an oxblood red ceramic base.  My parents' little print hanging in there of "Lord Lambton" has him in his famous little red velvet suit.

And my bedroom comforter is a deep red-on-cream toile, which I totally forgot!

Most of the rooms look very cluttered to me.  I couldn't live there.

Some of it is overwhelming and some just right.

Red has been my favorite color for years, whether it be in clothes or decor, different shades of red I am a fan!  I do like how the color is used in each and every room, very appealing, more in some than others.
