Re: A Not Very Nice Thing to Do to a Stunning New Build...

[ Edited ]

I like the exterior. The interior is too minimal, cold, and drab for me. I prefer more warmth, color, and a few homey accessories.

The dining room is my least favorite room. I don't like anything in the room. Even the fireplace is underwhelming.

The kitchen would be more my style with some color or contrast. Maybe darker countertops?

The bedroom is ok, but I'd prefer a more colorful rug. I don't care for the weird white table by the blue sofa.

Like many who've posted, I don't like the light fixtures in any of the rooms.

I would be happy to take the minimalist decorating minus the blue butterflies that make me a little crazy.  Maybe have to switch out the kitchen pendants also.  I agree, they are a bit odd. Cat Very Happy

@stevieb  The outside is very charming. The inside however is def NOT my style. I would have to strip it all out of the furniture and light fixtures and start over.

Can you imagine how much dust the bedroom light can accumulate?? I do like the butterflies. Kind of quirky. I like quirky.Woman Wink

The table and bench in the foyer seems redundant. Why do you need two of the same? It's not like you're going to sit on the bench and read or put on makeup. Just strange. Have either one or the other imo.

Thanks for the post.Smiley Happy

Any idea if this was just a "model" interior or this was the finished product of what the owner of the home wanted?

One thing that stands out to me is that the occupants probably don't have children OR pets.   Or house guests.

It's okay, if that's the style you like.

@Tinkrbl44  Nope, this was done for specific customers, so ostensibly they had to approve these choices, such as they are. I can't imagine, but if it works for them, I guess that's all that matters. Personally, I'd be beyond disappointed, but then I'd have never approved this design.

I really don't care for the lighting fixtures, and the dining room chairs need to go. Love the look of the house.

Lovely exterior.

There are elements I appreciate inside the house.  The light fixtures are not one of them.

The art can go, too.

Beautiful exterior, nasty interior. The outside and inside are clashing!

The exterior of the house is nice although the roof seems a bit busy with the steep peaks, flattish areas, and ski-jump dormers.  The landscaping is tasteful.

I agree about the interior design, @stevieb .  More like inferior design.

I like the blue chaise bench in the bedroom.

There's a book in the bedroom photo titled "Art Life" by architect and interior designer Sig Bergamin.  I looked up some of his designs and they are full of vibrant colors and bold patterns, so different from the homeowners' interior.  Loved the irony.

Re: A Not Very Nice Thing to Do to a Stunning New Build...

I've seen far worse. It looks like they played it safe for resale value. Neutral wall colors, neutral flooring, nothing that would have someone run screaming from the house.

One of the House Hunter shows (many years ago) showed a couple a house that was perfect for them but had a green dining room. They turned aside the house because of the green dining room. The realtor offered to have it repainted and the woman said no, that she'd know that green paint was still under there and she just couldn't live in a house that had ever had a green dining room.

If you're looking at a house with long-term resale in mind, going blah and boring is often your safest bet.

Re: A Not Very Nice Thing to Do to a Stunning New Build...

I'm in the minority, in that I don't care for the exterior, which to me is too choppy and unbalanced to cohere and be visually pleasing.  The interior has a slightly similar, but worse, kind of random-ness.  Horrible knobby pendant lights in kitchen, which don't relate to the rest of room.  Bedroom could be salvageable with removal of light fixture and some "warming up" elements?

Some of the architectural elements in the interior are oddly shaped, and seem superfluous, like that layered effect on the side of the island in kitchen-- pointless.   Ditto the shapes of the covered porch or whatever it is that is outside of the bedroom window.  I think they were going for what they thought would be originality, but unfortunately, it doesn't work.

Agreed, that sterile dining room is eek!
