A BIT OF AUTUMN, FRENCH STYLE

Screenshot 2024-08-18 at 11.39.01 AM.png

Always like to see what Lory Bernstein does seasonally and for holidays.  If you go to her "Designthusiasm" blog, there are TONS of fall ideas.  She even makes use of the darker tones of her teacup collection:

I love the things she does, often using the same decor over and over, but in different ways.

She leans to everything French, so, bear in mind, her fall decorating tends to be softer and muted.

What gorgeous pumpkins on her living room mantel. They must be "heirloom" varieties, maybe?  Their organic qualities, next to those distressed, wooden urns, love!

She does her coffee table in several different ways.

Screenshot 2024-08-18 at 10.57.45 AM.png

Here she filled a wood tray with magenta, pink and cream velvet pumpkins, and a distressed vase with 3 sprigs of faux hydrangea.  They look real!

Then, by the window, the simplicity of these two-toned magnolia leaves in a beautiful crystal vase, with a single gilt candlestick...

I've seen her do lots of color ways for fall, including some traditional oranges and bronzes, but she also favors pinks, burgundy and magentas ( like in her velvet pumpkins on the coffee table) and she brings out the copper, and also terra cotta she's collected.

Now, here's a different way she did her living room and other spots for fall.  A copper tub full of apples on the coffee table, and autumn-toned pillows--

The distressed vase with hydrangeas is now by the window, near a terra cotta throw and animal print pillow--

I love the shock of plume-y rust pampas grass next to this chalky secretary, a sprig of bittersweet nearby...

More bittersweet:

Those gorgeous wooden urns from the mantel, are now on a chest, flanking a cast iron planter with mums.

This wooden vase she's used in many different ways, now holds wheat stalks--

Her kitchen island gets a light treatment-

Another thing that was interesting, is her discussion of various ways to use color for fall.  She touched on four schemes:

natural ( or beige) and white--

mango ( orange ) and green:

black and cream --

terra cotta and brown-

What fun to comtemplate.  I like a fairly light hand with fall decorating, but I'm open to lots of colors and combos.  How about you?

The interesting four different color schemes discussion is in her article "Where to Find Affordable Fall Decor, and How to Style It".

so elegant! Yet approachable. I love the subtle color tones with the occasional surprise of deeper color. Just a beautiful room altogether

So beautiful!  I love the light, barely there colors.  All of these rooms, furniture and decor are so lovely.

My home is dark with dark neutrals and deep jewel tones, which I love, but every now and again I wonder what it would be like to live with such a light, airy feeling.

I like all her color combinations. Very nicely done.

My favorites are the various pumpkins on the mantel, the bittersweet and orange touches, and the mango and green combos.

I've never really thought about using black, cream, and neutrals for Autumn decor, but those vignettes look nice too. I already use color in my home furnishings and accessories so maybe neutral autumn decor would be a nice change?

Happy Autumn!

Lovely rendition of Autumnal French style decor.  Personally, I think Fall/Autumn decor is the most loved of all the seasons.
