I've always been good about donating clothing and other items, but this is the year I really winnow my household items.
Some things have already gone to the local thrift store, but I decided to consign most of the newer or little used items to a local auction house.
Yes, I guess I could try to sell it myself, but that prospect is exhausting. I was just going over some of what I wanted to remove, and before I knew it, my stacks had grown.
I have too much stuff! Decorative platters, dishes and serving pieces. My mother left me 20 or so pieces of gold, decorative items -- vases, candy dishes and such -- and I have not taken them out of my china cabinet in 15 years!
The days of entertaining large crowds are over, so the stuff will just stay "stored" until I die. There are no children to leave anything to.
While it gives me some pause to make a clean sweep, I'm also excited at the idea of clearing out space!
Now, to box it all up and off it goes!

Yipee! It needs to be done and you are ready! Nothing feels better than when we are ready to do a big project, and then we begin the process. Letting go of our 'stuff' is a very personal thing for each of us, and when the time is right, we know it!
I think you have made a very wise decision about using an auction house. Ebay selling, garage sales, craigslist etc. are indeed exhausting. It takes so much time and effort for what you really get for the items.
Good luck with the process, and hope you make good money and have some idea of how to celebrate with it! The real payoff will be the peace of mind in knowing you are getting things more under control and creating the kind of living space you really want.
I love my stuff, but too much only leads to stress!

@Witchy Woman - if you are ready, now is the time to get it done. It is such a good feeling to streamline! I love getting rid of "stuff". I'm in the process of redoing my studio and oh my, the things I have found and unloaded! Bravo to you!!

Hope you have great success consigning your items to the auction house. What a good idea. In my area people do estate sales, sometimes for a move, sometimes when someone passes away. I often thought I would hire a company to do this for me when I move.

@Witchy Woman We did this 6 years ago when we moved to florida and I just went thru again and purged the house, including going thru Christmas decorations and getting rid of a lot of old , not still very nice decor.
It will feel so good to you when you open a closet or a drawer and there is room to puit things away without cramming them in.
Lucky for me we also have a summer camp so I do have some things put aside to take there this year. I get to recycle right within my own place.
