1919 ENGLISH FARM IN COTSWOLDS

AD0320_MCNALLY_9.jpg

The restoration of this English farm has quite a story attached to it (which is in "Architectural Digest").  The New York restauranteur who bought it is obviously a perfectionist and he and his team did a bang-up job of rural charm and authenticity.  It takes a lot of taste and discernment to come up with something this restrained and true to the farm's origins, I think.

While he was doing it, though, his wife sued him for divorce, and he had a stroke. Feel so bad for him!   But he kept going, and he now has a lovely home, conducive to comfort and licking one's wounds.  It has that artful combo of simplicity and quirkiness that seems so English:

Handsome yellow ware, flowers, mellow brick, pleated colorful shade, muted still life....

The beams and wood lend such warmth:

Love under-the-eaves bedrooms!

Clearly, he has a penchant for fun, colorful lampshades:

Re: 1919 ENGLISH FARM IN COTSWOLDS

What a charming place! I would love to go to the Cotswolds in England someday. I've watched some of Rick Steves' YouTube videos of Europe. The ones he did on Bath and York in England make me want to put those on my bucket list too. (Maybe I'm drawn to England because there's so much English ancestry on my mother's side).

The English have such a way with decorating. A couple of years ago I watched a documentary on an old home Prince Charles raised funds for to be able to restore it to it's former glory. (Can't remember it it was in England or Scotland). Anyway, in the house was a beautiful, original piece of Chippendale furniture - a cabinet in the dining room. It was exquisite.

That house has ME ME ME all over it.  Love most everything -

just the art work would have to go.

Chaming!  I would not store piles of firewood inside though.  Bugs......

charming!  as you point out, he likes the lampshades to give color and life to an otherwise rather neutral palette in the bedrooms.  @Oznell   i love when you share these glimpses of English country life.

Re: 1919 ENGLISH FARM IN COTSWOLDS

I love the surrounding land, so beautiful and peaceful looking.  I do like the farm and what has been done with it.  The living room is spacious and warm and comfortable looking.  I love all the beams and  the country feeling they give to the home.  I am not fond of much of the decor and would change it to suit my taste.  All in all, I'll take it!
