The painting of the girl is so sweet as is the lovely tree.

 

Those beautiful flowers and tiled stove are charming.

Great question, @GingerHead -- I have seen old iron fireplaces before, that are then beautifully faux finished. I'm going to guess that this one was stone, though.

 

Agree with all your observations.

 

Wow, @Desert Lily -- you did great to watch that!  I must go back and try to watch from the beginning, at first opportunity.  Thanks for the great info.  You inspired me to find some more pictures.

 

When first looking, I was disappointed not to find a close-up of the house in the snow.  All I found were long shots.

 

But here is a closer-in shot during renovation.  While not a "yellow person",  I seem to enjoy the traditional Scandinavian use of a strong, almost 'egg yolk' yellow in architecture.  It's their version of bringing sun to a polar landscape!
