Re: Who Is Buying The TSV Trees?

Haven't read all the replies yet, but just wanted to say that I'm skipping these.

I have two old ones. One my first husband had specially made for me in the early 80's. It is so elegant, larger than those shown today, with much more definition in the branches, and the paint is almost variegated like a real tree. It has a beautiful base with decoration carved into the ceramic, and the base also has a music box.

The person who made mine was thoughtful enough not to glue in the 'bulbs' so I could change them up if I wished to do so. She used two piece poinsettia inserts instead of traditional bulbs, and I love that different and upscale look.

A few years ago, my son bought me a white (mother of pearl looking) one with red bulbs that someone made in the early 1970's. It was really not my taste, but you know how you just kind of fall in love with something because your kid gives it to you? Well, I ended up building my entire new dining room holiday decor around that tree. I now do an elegant cardinal theme with red accents (and some gold) in there, just to feature that tree.

I posted on another thread that I think people either love ceramic Christmas trees or they hate them. I was never a fan of them, but both of mine were from very special people in my life, so I grew to love them so much. It wouldn't be Christmas without them now, and I'd be devastated if anything happened to either one of them.

As far as the TSV ones, I'm not at all impressed (except it would be nice with the battery option not to be tied to a plug). There is little definition to these, the bulbs don't seem to be in proportion to the tree itself, and I don't care for the colored lights (mostly the shades of them).

If people who aren't familiar with these, look at the old original ones on ebay. So many are so very detailed and beautiful some with flocking accents and other nice touches.

The only way I'd consider these would be for a small child or grandchild to have in their room. Safe with the battery operated function, and I'm sure they'd love to go to sleep at night gazing at them.

@Mominohio  Your trees sound lovely and I do understand about finding a way to use the gifts from your kids.  I have a ferris wheel that lights and plays carnival music but yes, there's a place somewhere for it. It's red with some of the lovely carnival colors mixed in. Smiley Happy

I actually like the simplicity of the TSV trees but I don't like colored bulbs as much as clear.  I just don't use them much preferring the white ones.  But I'm going to try the white tree and see how it goes as my husband thinks it is pretty.  I had a green tree back in the 70's but it's no longer with us.  I have until January 31 to return if I don't like it.  I've never had a b/o tree so maybe the lights won't be bright enough but I'll find out.

Hope all of your orders came through in good shape.  I'll get my Valerie Reindeer pedestals with candles on Friday. i hope they will look the way I'm hoping they will.  If I saw some of this stuff in a store I probably would just leave it there. LOL

Re: Who Is Buying The TSV Trees?

@lucymo. I am buying the tree in white in both sizes.  I just happened to turn on tv last night- how did I miss that there was another Christmas in July show??  I bought it last year for my Mom who is in a nursing home and it was very cute and reminded me of the tree she made in a ceramics class!  I am denying the urge to buy more after last weekend!

@missxmas  I hope you enjoy the trees.  I wanted to try both colors but I'm not a fan of colored lights, any color, so I'm thinking of canceling the order.  I found out later that the bulbs are glued in and not replaceable as I had hoped to do.

@lucymo, Good morning!

I can't give you any advice on whether to cancel or not, but here are my  thoughts on the TSV.  When I watched the TSV yesterday I kept thinkiing how whimsical the trees looked, especially white ones, which reminded me of gum drops, and that tempted me to want the small ones to go with my few gingerbread items.  I was well behaved, though.  I ended up passing.

I did some browsing yesterday, for ceramic trees, on ebay, etsy, and other online stores.  I came away from all of that thinking that if I wanted whimsical for my gingerbread stuff, that I would check as-is for the white TSV trees, and if I wanted a more universal white tree that I could use everywhere else, that I would probably be happier with the more traditional style, the style with the more detailed branches.

Good luck with your decision.  I'm still waiting on my CIJ weekend purchases.  :-(  I think I read that you are still waiting, too.

Re: Who Is Buying The TSV Trees?

@SHOPR  I like the simplicity of the TSV trees but I am not a fan of any color  bulbs.  Back in the 70's people made the ceramic trees and stuck flower bulb, bird bulb and all those colored bulbs in them and I didn't like them then.  I also don't like the ones with flocking on the branches so I guess I just like the more simple ones.  I'd be thrilled to have the white TSV tree with white bulbs.  Simple, clean lines is what I like but they stuck colored bulbs in them.  Oh, well, I haven't canceled yet because DH thinks it's pretty.  Maybe he will put it in his bathroom. Smiley Happy

I will receive my Reindeer pedestals on Friday and not sure about the candle rings and garland as they were shipped USPS and tracking sucks for that.  Hope you love all of your purchases when they come in.

Okay.....on another thread about this TSV, someone mentioned "Texas Hill Country Ceramics and Gifts".  So I toodled on over to their website and was blown away by the quality and beauty of their ceramic Christmas trees (each is handmade and made to order right here in Texas)!  Of course they are also more expensive!  LOL  I'm not into white trees, but they do have one that is white, 11.5" tall, with all white lights...and it's $54.95 (none of their trees are battery operated).  They also have a GORGEOUS 27" mother of pearl ceramic with all white lights.........$1,20.00! Even though it is more expensive, I think I am going to order a green tree from them.  Their trees look MUCH more defined and have, for lack of a better term, better defined lines.

I went and looked here as well, and this is much more what these trees should look like.

I know that there are a couple of things at play here. Price point of course, is one, and a really nice tree isn't going to be had for $30.

Battery vs plug is the other. To get really nice ones at this time seems to require having the plug.

Glad I have two I love, because I wouldn't be able to settle for this lesser look, knowing such beautiful ones are out there.

@SHOPR  Thanks for your input.  I've looked at a lot of the trees too on other sites but  most of them I don't like as they just lean in the opposite direction of what I want.  We can special order from Texas Hill Country and get what we like but they are a little pricey.  But none are cheap on ebay or other sites either.

I actually made a tree in ceramics when we lived overseas.  We could make them the size and color that we wanted. I do remember having a little trouble getting the holes just right in the tree so the bulbs would fit.  I really don't need a tree, just got caught up in the nostalgia mode.  You know how that works. lol

@lucymo@SHOPR@Mominohio  Late last night I thought I'd order the small white ones but ended up canceling this morning.  Just not sure on them and to be honest, I want to wait for some of the reviews to come in. Doesn't look like they sold out and the price today is only $1.50 more than yesterday.

Re: Who Is Buying The TSV Trees?

@MTH  Well, here is my take on the trees.  For the price I think they appear to look quite nice.  Others like a more detailed tree where I like this simple one just fine.  I just don't like color on them and that is my main problem.  I'm just going to cancel and then I won't be buying something that is not what I really want.  We'll find plenty to drive us crazy way before Christmas.  LOL
