It must be where we are from.  I grew up in the northeast and continue to live here.....NY, NJ & PA

Dressing !

Mom always called it dressing, she was from Oklahoma.

Cornbread sausage dressing.

I say both, depends on what comes out of my mouth at the time.

I have always called it stuffing.  When I hear the word dressing I think of salad dressing not stuffing.

Here in SW Missouri, my family calls it dressing if it's baked separately from the turkey, and it's called stuffing if it's baked in the cavity of the turkey.

ONLY dressing!  None of my family wanted to eat the one from inside the turkey.  Our preference was crumbled cornbread, sauteed onions and celery and maybe mushrooms, cream of mushroom soup and broth mixed to wet it down, salt and pepper, mixed up and baked until crisp on top.

No bread, no eggs, no turkey drippings.  We topped it with a light giblet gravy and loved every bite.  We make it several times a year--so easy--to go with chicken.

I call it dressing when it's baked in a pan alone and stuffing when it's put inside the turkey cavity.

Dressing.  However, no one I know ever put any in the turkey.  It was always on the side.

NOLA native here and my family always called it dressing. Oyster dressing, yum!  And it was always cooked inside the turkey so the turkey juices blended with the other flavors.
