We had a wonderful Christmas

My mother passed this year, so we did not have the traditional family Christmas dinner  at her house.  First time in my 70 years of life.

Instead my husband and I went out to dinner at a restaurant  and had a very pleasant and relaxful meal.

We figured out that it had been at least 15-20 years since we had enjoyed a Christmas dinner.

What a surprise to realize how stressful family dinners had become and what a relief to actually anticipate and enjoy a Christmas dinner.

At any rate, I hope everyone had a pleasant holiday, however you spent it.

Re: We had a wonderful Christmas

@juanitalinda  Sounds you did indeed have a wonderful Christmas.

Dh & I have finally realized we don't need the stress, fireworks, circus, etc. so we do a holiday for us, just us, no stress, no politics, no judgment - so worth it for us.

Re: We had a wonderful Christmas

@juanitalinda  I understand what you mean.  My dad passed about a month ago.  First time in my 69 years I did not go home to celebrate with my parents or parent.  However, I did stay here at home and had my adult kids over with my grands and we had a great Christmas Eve and hubs and I had a quiet Christmas Day watching football.

Re: We had a wonderful Christmas

@juanitalinda - I'm so glad you had a special time. Missing someone at Christmas is hard.

My mom died suddenly shortly after Thanksgiving from septic shock syndrome when my children were young. When I was younger I had a friend whose husband was killed in an accident leaving the airport to come home from a business trip. When it came time for their first Christmas without him, she and her 10-year old son went on a cruise. Her family didn't want her to go, but she did.

Sometimes I think it helps to remember your loved ones by doing something different. Having dinner with your husband sounds like it was peaceful and comforting.

@juanitalinda Glad you enjoyed the day and thanks for posting.

That is us too.  It was a relaxed and stress-free day!  We picked up the food yesterday, it was excellent, and no worries, no schedules, no cooking!  Great and happy day!  Even got a nap--a first for me on Christmas day!

Funny how things change over the years.  Sometimes less is best.

It's just the two us us and yesterday we went to the zoo and had lunch at a restaurant. He had an omelet and I had a patty melt. Gosh it was good.

Re: We had a wonderful Christmas

I remember how sad I felt when a friend of mine went to an all day buffet for Thanksgiving several years ago. Today I fully understand it, we might do the same but (please don't laugh) we stay home to be with the cats-as if they care!

I think it is wonderful that you all do as you wish for a holiday, heck I celebrated last night by cleaning the fish tank.

@beach-mom I don't think I mentioned anything about missing family at Christmas.

Actually, quite the opposite.
