Aldi yesterday ( Oct 21)Butterballs, a LOT of them in the end case...1.69/lb.
Western PA.
They were all very large turkeys...20 pounder runs @$34.00 dollars.
WAAAAYYYYYY To big for me!!!
I agree last year "they" did the same thing ( not Aldi, "they"!!)...
Closer it got to T-day, the more the prices dropped, and since fear drives sales, I bought one "for the freezer" as the prices were dropping, and paid more than I should have!!!!
It's still in the freezer!!! It's part of my "panic pantry" supply of food...and we're going to celebrate it's "birthday THIS year!!! ( It's not a Butterball...I buy Honeysuckle White if they have them...)
I guess if you're having company for the Holiday, you want to make sure you have a turkey, and marketters know this, so fear of missing out drives earlier sales.
I say wait if you can.
Turkey is usually a good price per pound for the protein BUT as someone mentioned, dealing with the carcass and picking off the meat is a drag!!!
I live alone, and every year I fall for the "Turkey On Sale Great Buy Get One For The Freezer!!!".
Knowing me, I'll probably do the same thing this year!!!
Aldi had fozen ducks too...3.59 a pound ( they run about 5 pounds)....I LOVE duck and make ONE per year according to Julia Child's recipe ( "Steam Roasting") which involves several steps and is work to complete BUT I love duck!!!
I've learned to buy a few cheap foil roasting pans at Aldi to do the duck...Duck is SO greasy as it cooks I just throw the thing out instead of struggling to get a roaster clean clean after all that grease.I have a septic system and grease is the worst thing you can put down the drain....!!!
Actually, I don't throw out the foil pan..I fill it with scraps ( no bones ) from the duck, add some canned cat food to it, mix it all up, and give it to the ferals I feed. They lick it clean... then it goes into the trash!!! they can use the extra fat in thier diet to keep warm....!!

We have already purchased our frozen turkey for Thanksgiving. Our local grocery store was having a sale on them so we picked it up. We always also have prime rib with our Thanksgiving dinner. Many in our family do not care for turkey so we offer an alternative which my brother brings. I have yet to see a grocery store in our area without frozen turkeys. The closer you get to Thanksgiving day, yes there will be sold outs, but now. Not around here.

Aldi had Butterball Turkeys at 35 cents a pound a year ago and I purchased 4. They're good for a few years so we're set for this Thanksgiving. Purchased the Libby Pumpkin last year on sale, canned cranberries last year on sale....again, we're good. This is why I purchase in bulk and store stuff.....you never know anymore. ![]()

Spend $400 between 10/16 and 11/24 and get a free turkey up to 21 lbs. at my Shoprite. That is for their brand. If you want kosher or Butter Ball it is I believe 50 cents or more per pound. Acme is offering a similar deal.

Got ours today when Wal Mart had them on sale. Plenty in the display freezer. Don't buy into the panic. I saw one channel say they could cost as high as $60. Ours was $16 for a 15 lb turkey.

The turkeys in stores right now were likely processed 6-9 months ago.

Was just in BJ's yesterday. Lots of turkeys in the case. .99 cents/lb and when you spend a certain amount your get a turkey for free. No turkey shortage.

Strangely enough, I have not seen the usual pre holiday sales on turkeys in the local stores. Just in case I cannot find a small turkey, I will get some turkey legs and if that is unavailable I will buy a chicken. All the other dishes we like will still be there tho. So, no big problem for me even tho I would prefer a turkey.

We were in Walmart last week, and they had Honeysuckle White turkeys for .98 lb. so we got one.
DH was in Food Lion this morning and their turkeys were .49 lb....just like they always are a week or two before Thanksgiving. So he got one of those.
