I was just going to post this.A terrible day in our history drawing us into WWII. My neighbor, when I was a little girl, was a survivor. My dad served in the Army air corp. in the Asiatic/Pacific theater.

My father was a Pearl Harbor surivor- Army Air Corps, he was a fighter pilot- After graduating from flight school in May of 1941 , this young man from Palestine Texas, when asked for his 3 choices of where he wanted to be stationed, wrote "Hawaii, Hawaii, Hawaii"!!
He was on his way to church that Sunday morning, after an officers dance the night before.. He never spoke about it much, until he was pretty old..those men were like that...But as he aged he spoke about it more..He flew P-38's in the South Pacific after that- In his later life,he was saddened that it seemed that very few remembered that fateful day..
He and my Mom are buried at Arlington..They died in 2007.
My Dad was my hero..

@Mothertrucker What a beautiful story and tribute. How proud you must be. They were a good looking couple too.

My dad was there too, on D-Day and Battle of the Bulge. 9th Armored Division, 2nd Tank Battalion. He made it home on leave 30 minutes before I was born in 1944. Thank you Daddy.

My Mom told me their story of Pearl Harbor (I was just a twinkle in Moses'eye). They had gone to see a film at the State Theater on the Southside of New Castle,PA. When they came out, people were running around saying we had been attacked. She remembered it so well.
On 9-11 we (Hubbs and myself) were getting ready for a dentist appt. She called and said to turn on the TV we were being attacked again.

On a silly note: Got one of those calls about insurance and was told the enrollment ended 12-7. I asked what was the significance of 12-7 and was told that was when enrollment ended. When I told that person it was also Pearl Harbor Day,that person had NO idea what I was talking about.
Maybe not so silly.

My dad was in the navy and on his way over to Pearl Harbor when it was attacked. He arrived a few days later to help with the clean up.

Glad your dad made it home in time for your day of birth !
My dad didn't get to meet for at least 2.5 years and then the twins were born. I spent my time with my grandfather so when my dad came home, he must have felt a little strange.
The twins were the center of attention which gave me relief....I had my own big bedroom and quiet privacy. It gave me a head start while in school as I loved reading and studying on my own. It was probably why I excelled at school.

My dad was in college when this occurred and he dropped out enlisted in the navy. It was a big wake-up call for many young men. A tragedy that so many didn't come back. I lost an uncle in the Pacific.
