I've noticed that during the CIJ programming today, they are running 'commercials' featuring buyers showing some of the things they are featuring for CIJ and the upcoming season.

I've noticed that I find less every year to get excited about with Q's holiday offerings. When I look at these buyers, I think I may have found one reason why I'm not as impressed as years past.

The buyers they are featuring seem to be very young (relative to me, that is a lot of people these days!!). It made me wonder just what the age range of their home decor buyers are, and that, if they don't have some more mature folks in those positions, it could be a reason why I don't find as much to suit me.

Just wondering if there is a wide variety of ages genders, backgrounds etc. in their Q buyers for their home decor and holiday items, or if they consider the entire demographic field of their buyers. Sometimes it seems like they are targeting young and modern tastes, and forgoing things/styles that are more traditional.

@Mominohio After looking over the 3 pages of CIJ preview I predicted another snooze fest of programming, and again I was right!

I am so tired of hearing "New & Improved" from last year, my husband who hardly ever watches QVC asked me this morning how many times have they demonstrated the flash pad, he even knew about them from just casually walking through a room while I have had CIJ on in previous years.

I was so looking foward to this day of programming, but the TV is off, nothing of interest to me!

@CareBears  It will be better on July 25, that is the big event, this early one is to get rid of older inventory while bringing a little new.

@Mominohio  All I know is that I no longer have any one in my own life who is buying holiday decor.

I haven't seen anything anywhere for at least a decade that I'd buy for the holidays -  and if I suddenly wanted something, I'd look first at estate sales or thrift shops.  But, really, all I want to do is winnow what I already own -  and I have all kinds of company for that among my family and friends.  That makes it tough for buyers of any age I'd think.

You bring up a very good point. I think that at all age levels, people are saturated with both too much stuff, and too many choices. This wasn't the case for most people just even a couple of decades ago.

With cheap imports, 'stuff' became cheaper to acquire, and marketing convinced us we 'needed' and 'wanted' more. We bought it (literally and figuratively).

Then, the advent of TV shopping and the internet, and we got used to a bigger and bigger selection of things in any given category.

Now, we are expecting more in quantity and to be 'wowed' in every shopping experience.

I don't think age of buyers it's the sign of the times.

Often we are on the home boards posting about our "decluttering, downsizing, etc." and how proud we are of this accomplishment.

I can tell you my kids, millennials and even baby boomers are becoming more focused on "life experiences", i.e., travel, etc.  I probably could taken 2-3 trips around the world for what I've spent over the years!

The Goodwill, habitat, hospice thrift stores are filled with new &

gently used excess stuff from those of us who have filled our homes with "things" our children, relatives really have no use for.

Interestingly, visited my niece & her new husband at the 3,500 sq ft home they had custom built.  Their home is gorgeous and decorated very minimally, yet, is breathtaking.

My sons homes are the same.  I think Q is changing to meet the changes of their buying audience - fashion & beauty.  Honestly, I'm in the same boat.  The older I get the "less" buying I do.

Of course, personally I can find most things in a B&M store. And right now I'm focusing on donating or really disposing of my kitchen stuff.  I plan to sell a lot of my better items at our community yard sale (many still in original boxes).

I am watching off & on CIJ nothing great. I hoped to see VPH items yet I can find them in Hobby Lobby or equivalent home specialty in stores, catalogs.

I was a bit nervous a couple of days ago.  I was worried I might see tons of things I had to have and (having no control) there goes the credit cards.  So far, I purchased two sets of the bird nests with the winter & autumn birds by Valerie, and three sets of the TSV ~ amber, red, and clear.  I decorate our nine-foot mantel with a miniature fairy theme and thought the little lights would look good ~ clear for Christmas (or everyday), amber for fall and red for Valentine's Day.  I looked at Jill's upcoming items and see some things I might like.  We'll see.  My point is, a few years ago I would be expecting lots of boxes at my doorstep.  In a way, I miss that.  Sorry, but selling Jo-Jo's hair bows during CIJ?  Really?  It seems anyone who has appeared on television at some point can sell SOMETHING, ANYTHING to SOMEONE.  Kind of disappointing.  I remember a few years back David had a holiday show featuring reproduction vintage items.  That was wonderful!  It would be nice to have something like that again ~ not hair bows and cheap jewelry.  :-(

In terms of style, the offerings I've seen in the past 24 hours have been more diverse than what I've seen in many recent years.

@Julie928

I remember those vintage Christmas shows with David a few years back. My guess is that they didn't go over very well, or they would have been back.

I personally loved them, and thought there were so many things they could have done to continue it for many more years, even going back farther in time than they did. They focused on things from the 50's and 60's , but I think there would be a market for things going back much farther.

I have requested they bring those shows back, as even just one or two of them per holiday season would be a welcome change from the same old things.

Maybe they will hear us!

I agree with all posters here but IMO QVC over-hypes everything.

I supposed that's part of the sale pitch.

Used to be QVC had unique items, now you can find almost anything anywhere, on the internet and at retail.

I decorate with Nutcrackers.    I have many, QVC has very few & they are overpriced

Last season I  purchased a Plow & Hearth snowman for a gift.   It was packaged horribly for what I paid for it.   I was underwhelmed.
