Awe, thanks @Marsha2003 ! It was a lot of work. Luckily my husband can do everything (woodwork, electrical,plumbing,etc) and I can do the painting and am the idea guy (haha) so we make a good team.

I always say it's absolutely amazing what a little paint can accomplish and it's cheap and easy to change if you don't like it. I probably painted the fireplace a total of 8 times before I was finally happy with it.

@Nightowlz Thanks! Funny thing is I do like dark and gloomy just as much as light and bright (if not more) but I only wanted to paint this house once and wanted it to attrack more of the masses since this probably isn't out forever home and hope to sell it one day....

@GingerHead

I need that sunshine coming in daily. I'm not in a very good mood when the suns not out.

We have been in this house forever due to all the light. All the houses around here are dark & gloomy. Some have no windows in the living room.

We used to have some color on the walls in the house. Decided I wanted all white ceilings with Filoli Antique Lace on the walls which is a color from the National Trust For Historic Preservation. Lowe's changed the name on their color now to Wheat Toast. My sister said they probably did that so that didn't have to pay for the use of Filoli Antique Lace name. The Wheat Toast color is the same. My sister has the same color in her house.

I love the fireplace plus the other changes you made I can see in the pics from before & after.

Painting it 8 times is a lot of hard work to find the right one.

We do all the work around here we can do. We do pay for electricians & plumbers since DH is neither.

We did pay to have a new kitchen installed. DH wasn't intersted in doing it all. We did gut the kitchen.

@haddon9 ,

That looks so inviting and I especially like the straw bale too!

@on the bay Thank you!

The bale of straw was a bit larger from what I remembered buying in previous years and it sure was messy!

Awe, thanks for the compliments everyone! I appreciate all your kind words....

@Nightowlz I looked up your color because I'm always interested in learning about new colors, it's the middle one and it is so warm and lovely. I can just imagine the warmth it would give a room but I much prefer the 1st name (the original one) to the toast one, more romantic. haha

@crazycockermom  Isn't that a great candle? It was a little splurge I don't regret.

@DSD2 Thanks so much, I got that spider mantle scarf from Amazon for around $7.00....
