Now that the holiday meal is over, I have a question.

Was invited to Easter Brunch at a friend’s home. Took several dishes and some liquor. There were leftovers which I would have taken some home but was never asked. I should have asked but didn’t think it was proper. When they come to my house I always offer and they accept. Is it okay to ask to take food home?

I wouldn’t.

My feeling is your hosts should of asked. So, I'd bring it up. You know the saying: "the squeaky door".......Of course it depends on how well you know the hosts. If I wasn't close to them, I wouldn't ask.

You stated this was a friends home, so ask your friend for a little doggy bag.

No, I would not ask, either.

I would assume the hostess overlooked the issue and would not ask, might I embarrass her/him.

I always offer guests food to take home too -- but if I were at somebody's house and they didn't offer -- I would never ask.

I wouldn't ask. If they don't offer, then they must think they'll be able to handle the leftovers. As good as the meal was, and as much is still left, I don't ask for food to take home.
