No SweetHearts Candy Conversation Hearts This Year

The New England Confectionery Company (‘Necco’) is no longer producing the classic Valentine’s Day candy.

Necco started making the hearts in 1901, but closed last year and was sold to an investment company who then sold the operation to the Spangler Candy Company in September 2018.

Spangler didn't have time to produce the hearts this year, but said they would be back next year.

I honestly can't remember a Valentine's Day without them.

Spangler will bring them back next year, along with Necco wafers. In the meantime, Brach's conversation hearts will have to suffice.

All the variations are really too sweet for me to eat more than one or two per year, but I have to say I think the Brach's version is superior—the Necco ones make me think of Pepto Bismol or chalk.
