Re: Newest acrylic finials a complete disappointment

I have the acrylic finials from the first year, and two sets from last year. I love them for many reasons, including when they are unlit, as well as the nice 'twinkle' of light when lit. They show their colors well when lit, and are just so elegant.

So I had to try the brown ones offered this year.

Well, I had to know the good had to end somewhere. No more light movement in these new ones, and I could have lived with that. But when lit, the color essentially disappears and they are basically a bright white.

There is no elegance or ambiance when they are lit. They look like some neon sign or some wand to use while landing aircraft in the field.

Unlit they are not bad, but for $50 they are going to have to look good lit as well. I have them running tonight to see if I can come to grips with them, but I'm suggesting others not waste the money on these this time around (and many of you know how much I raved about them last year).

I'm wondering if mine might be defective, like the right amount of glitter wasn't applied inside, to cause the light to shine through so white and bright (I mean there is virtually no brown tones when lit, but is brown when unlit)

Anyone else get these latest acrylic finials and have the same experience, especially if you have the older ones to compare them to?

@Mominohio  I just received them, and you are right.  when lit, the chocolate cease to be chocolate and become a speckled white, so to speak, not at all looking as they did in the presentation.  The red when lit become a light cherry red, not good as there is a pink undertone, but unlit, they are pretty, so with all other candles lit around them, they will be fine, maybe, but the chocolate are an issue, so will decide soon whether they go back.

The tallest chocolate looks fine, not nearly as bright as the other two, so I may just keep that one lit, and the other two unlit, if I keep them.

@mousiegirl

The red ones I got last year 'as is' by mistake (they sent me the wrong color) were the most beautiful things. Perhaps if those become available again you would like them better. It has been awhile, but I swear they were very dark red, even when lit.

Glad to know that I'm not the only one who thinks the chocolate ones are not as expected.

I haven't given up on them totally yet, I am going to use them for a week and see what I think over some time.

What I fail to comprehend is that Q/Valerie brings something good, it is popular (finials) and they can't just keep the same quality coming, while upgrading some things like battery life, or length of timer or addition of new colors. They seem bent on messing up a good thing. Either they do it to keep the prices down, or they need to go back to their manufacturers and refuse shipments of things like this.

Either way, I'm disgusted with the quality of most things today, and frustrated trying to find things that just last year were wonderful, but the latest shipment is not.

Re: Newest acrylic finials a complete disappointment

I received my chocolate today and I couldn't be happier with them.  I finally found the perfect place on my side board for them.  I also received the mosaic spheres in gold and they are stunning.  They just sparkle so nice when lit and just as beautiful unlit.  I can't wait to get the other spheres I ordered.

I didn't buy the finals, but thought the chocolate was gorgeous unlit.  I didn't see them light.  I came close to ordering the matching spheres, but was kinda glad they sold out while I was stalling.  Hope everything turns out alright.

Re: Newest acrylic finials a complete disappointment

Dear mominohio,

This is my first foray into messages of this sort. Usually I just write reviews. I hope this reaches you.

I, too, ordered both finials and spheres to go together. I tried to approach CIJ with the idea that maybe I could find some fall decor (not just xmas) and liven up a few corners of my house that don't get used much (the dining room only gets used a few times/yr, for example). I ordered the "soft blue" finials and the blue spheres. The issue you alluded to is exactly what I found to be the case. The light coming from the finials seems very, very light... not bluish at all. It is significantly lighter than the light coming from the spheres (I ordered the mosaic spheres). The blues do not match. The spheres, when lit, are significantly darker than the finials. When unlit, they all look good together. When lit, it's not that they don't work at all, but they don't "jive" as I had imagined. I am still debating whether to return the finials in soft blue, return both the finials AND the blue spheres or keep all of it. It's not bad, but it's not quite what I had pictured. Also, the base of the finials is slightly wider than the space I wanted to put at least one of them (around a Jacuzzi on the tiles outside the tub's molding -- turns out I need at least another .25" to fit the base of the finial on the one side of the tub). That is my fault, as I eyeballed the distance after reading the description online and thought it would be OK. Thanks for your post -- it let me know that others were experiencing the same phenomenon as I was.

@BonjourHola, Welcome to the forums.  I appreciate the details you provided here, even though I didn't order these items.  Since reviews aren't even viewable on my browser of choice, Firefox, and I hate switching back and forth between browsers, I think I'm relying on the opinions given here more than before.  :-)
