Hey Happy. Just to show you how crazy I am about Chritmas i will post some pics of last years display. Keep in mind any treats you see are all fake.

I had an item like that delivered last year & they DID indeed  give me credit.

Mine was a set so I received partial credit because only one piece was broken.

I probably could have received full credit but I was happy with partial & wanted to be fair to QVC also.

Anyways, I ended up gluing the broken piece. It's not perfect but I disguise it like you are contemplating. 

I would suggest - on a hollow item like you are showing - to stuff some foam, tissues or paper towels in there to "sturdy it up".

You also may be able to find some red duct type tape to cover the hole & again - keep it from breaking more.
