Re: Health issues and decorating

Christmas isn't about decorating.  I just do what I feel like doing.  I buy a fresh wreath for the front door and I have a lighted 3 ft flocked tree decorated with one red cardinal...no other ornaments.

I have collected large handmade Santa's over the years, so I put some,  but not all of them out. I add a few candles and a little of this and that and I am done.

Christmas will not pass you by if you don't decorate to the hilt.  Just do what you can and will enjoy the most.

Nothing  is worse  than spending the Christmas season in bed with a heating pad pumped full of drugs....then repeating the process and the pain when you have to put everything away.

@luvmybeetle.  Thanks for the kind words about my Jett.  Unfortunately I lost him several years ago.  I concluded I could no longer handle big dogs so now I have a mini Aussie and a medium wonderful mutt.

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well, of course, we do it to ourselves..Hope you feel better.  I'm exhausted & achy just from taking down Fall🙄

I have no idea why "we" feel like everything has to be done in "excess" (every inch decorated) or why we just can't enjoy & relax🤷‍♀️

I just took down and purged/packed away my Fall decor.  It was a 3 day ordeal!  I'm still finishing up and in between shopping, preparing for Thanksgiving dinner.  Hope no one comes to visit because my guest room is my "catch all" messy room right now😮

My spouse asked me several times today should he bring Christmas decorations down from attic. He's the only one who can climb up the pull down ladder & maneuver in that small area!  I could never do it ...anyway, I told him no.  He was surprised!

For me it's a lot of work!  Today, I had a funny thought:  As I took down the Fall decor, I cleaned then put the "everyday" decor back up.  That's kinda crazy -- to take it down, pack it up again just to decorate for Christmas🤔🙄

I did buy a nice tree for this year & frankly, I think I "might" just decorate it, put a few things out, a wreath on the door and enjoy my visit home the first few weeks of December.

it's just the 2 of us and although I enjoy seeing my home totally decorated & love all my decor  -- I'm thinking this year maybe I'll just "relax & enjoy" it'll be over in a blink since the season is short this year  🎄🎅🏻.

I wanted to bake and right now have no plans too.  I'm even considering catering or just doing big italian dinner , ham and appetizers for my Christmas open house end of December, including focusing more on a  dessert bar.  Most my friends are retired and anyday is good for us!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone🦃

Re: Health issues and decorating

Both my husband and I, seniors, have had back surgeries.  I changed the way I decorate.  Now it is all about smaller items I can handle:  flame less candles and pretty candle rings, snowmen and Santa's, indoor garland, and a few keepsake smaller items.  I just take my time.  We also put up a tree but a small one that disconnects in three pieces so it is easy to carry and assemble.

The key to being able to do all of this is to take your time and spread it out a few days.  Don't kill yourself by rushing to do evrything in one day.  Ok, it takes longer and the house is messier a few days longer, but it is much more joyful.

Im sorry to hear about your health issues, just put a couple things out and and call it a day....its better to do just a tiny bit and not be in more pain after you decorate....

Sometimes my knee acts up and after last season I cut back this year...

I started early, 2nd week of November and took it a bit at a time. I got a smaller Christmas tree-5 ft and this year and hit the high spots--LIVING ROOM-the tree, Jim Shore Santa -sleigh and reindeer on bookcase, nativity on the end table,  Jim Shore angels and greenry on coffee table, garland on my armoire, DINNING ROOM floral display and candles on dinning room table. and KITCHEN---a Jim Shore snowman and VPH Cardinals in kitchen...thats it...Everything got done pretty quickly ---especially the smaller tree...

I used to be more elaborate with Christmas decor all over my house and also decorated the bathroom and even had a small tree on my bedroom dresser, but cut that out....But its still festive and Christmassey...

Im like you I hate to see the bins around .... Smiley Wink

I am just giving up for this year. I started pre-surgery chemo for breast cancer in August and it will go through January 2. I feel pretty rotten most of the time but at least I know I should be back to normal by next year. I have some minor back problems (plus old age!) so I feel for those of you with chronic pain. That really does tell you it's time to cut back.

Re: Health issues and decorating

My sister and I have this conversation often .  We just cannot do what we used to do around the house, our energy level and stamina is not high!

I do decorate but it is a slow process and takes more time than it used to.  I am overwhelmed with decorations and cannot put them all out.  In fact I too am trying to downsize and only keep the older decorations I love.

I can only imagine how difficult it is to decorate with a back issue.  However, I have accepted that I cannot decorate as before. I decorate with much less and the house looks festive.  I am happy with that.

Re: Health issues and decorating

Two years ago, I had C-Diff and last year I had surgery for glaucoma.  I did a few things, but not much.  This year, I have put out a few things, but not decorated the tree, I might just go with lights and my tree topper. I think Christmas is what is in your heart, not your house.

Re: Health issues and decorating

I don't have health issues presently that would interfere with my decorating my home for the holiday, but at this point I don't know if I really want to be bothered. It's just my husband and me and my son who does spend the holidays with us, could care less. I'll see how energetic I am after I cook a turkey with all the trimmings tomorrow. I usually decorate the Monday after Thanksgiving.
