He Has Arrived!

[ Edited ]

Albuquerque's snowman created by the state highway department employees and constructed of tumbleweeds which have thorns and naturally stick together.  You can appreciate the scale by observing the trucks near it.  It's  on I-40 right in the middle of the city.  They spray paint it white.  He appeared suddenly today.

Heaven forbid someone should throw a lit cigarette in it.

How in the world did they do that?!

@on the bay.  I don't know exactly how they do it, but tumbleweeds weigh practically nothing,  but they're not pleasant to handle with their stickers.

Hope the winds stay calm.

Hopefully, they've also sprayed it with flame retardant so, if someone does throw a cigarette, it won't cause a problem.

Interesting way to start the seasonal celebration.

My dear Noni used to gather the tumbleweeds from our desert each Christmas season. She cleaned them up a bit and would make a snowman out of them. Instead of white, Noni sprayed them in gold or silver...of course hers were a much smaller version than the giant sized one above.

A person would have to have a few brain cells missing to drive I-40 in the winter...

That is just amazing.  I would love to see him in person!

In Maryland, the farmers use a few hay bales to create characters, but they are NOTHING on this scale.

Speaking of tumbleweeds, several years ago, I watched a show about a woman who creates very pricey chandeliers from tumbleweeds.  It was fascinating.  She said they've are often in remote areas so she's got to scour the countryside for them.

The lights were unique, but not my cup of tea.  I like this use of them a lot better Cat LOL
