Just saw someone buy some on a street in a movie, and hubs and I talked about it the other day. Neither one of us have ever had those, have you?

Never on an open fire but years ago I had a beaux who used to do them in the oven for us and they were very tasty. I tried them years later this way and they were awful. I think, however, that the ones I bought in the grocery store were old.

Yes. They are good in turkey stuffing .
I buy the ones at Costco that are already shelled & cooked in a resealable bag . I add a little water in a pan to re heat & rehydrate , then chop and add to turkey stuffing .
They kind of remind me of eating macadamia nuts

Every time I go to New York City this time of the year. There is something about that warm bag in my hand walking around that magical city.
Plus, they were always on the table during the holidays growing up.

My mother always roasted them in the oven - they were delish. I did try them from a street vendor in NYC and they tasted like burnt ash.

I had some from a street vendor in Philly. I found them to be mealy and tasteless. Would never eat again.

I recently saw a story on Localish! They looked good, but I never had them. Tempted!
We might try!🌰

I was born and raised in New York City and they were an ever-present treat this time of the year. They were always fresh and piping hot. I can still smell them and feel the heat through the bag. My mom made them at home and while they were excellent, they didn't come close to those on the street. Precious memories. I live in another state where they have no idea about NYC goodies...our bagels, our pizza, etc.. So homesick.
