I used to mail Christmas cards years ago when I was first married, thought I was very mature to do it, lol.  Don't send anymore.

My mom and dad's relatives always sent cards with long typed letters that gave updates on everything that happened in their families over the past year, lol.  That's gone by the wayside now, too.

I just found this thread and have to say that I'm so happy to hear that I'm not the only one who enjoys mailing holiday cards. It really has become almost a dying artform, but I'm bound & determined to keep it going as long as I can.

This year's card was based on the Nutcracker ballet. I created it on my computer and Photoshopped the entire thing. I then took JPG's of my artwork to FedEx Office and had them printed (I normally use Shutterfly but they had production issues). The interior of my holiday card was the Stahlbaum's living room (Scene 1 from the ballet). I included inserts with my card that were printed with the Nutcracker's main characters on them but with the faces of my family instead (Clara had my daughter's face, Fritz had my son's face, etc.). These charcters were actually paper dolls that could be cut out and placed in front of my card's "stage." That way anyone who received my card could create their very own Nutcracker ballet. It was a fun card for me to create, and I hope it was a fun card for my loved ones to receive.

Sometimes I design a small tablescape in keeping with the occasion...birthday or Christmas mostly.  Then I take a picture with my iPad and forward it to a few people.  Seems more thoughtful and requires no postage!
