Now that we've cleared Valentine's Day, I do dream a little about spring, and to me, that means birds.  Even though I've seriously decluttered over the last few years, a few birds will remain a constant for me.

Have you seen Valerie's new ones?  H399996.  They look to be a bit of a departure for her.  I'm not ordering, but they are cute:

They're a little bohemian, sort of more "global".   I like the black and white, and the fact that they're "mixed media"--  resin, but the flouncy tails are made of metal.  And they are chunky.

I always show my first Valerie birds, the ceramic patchwork ones.  Those I've hung on to-- she doesn't seem to do as many ceramic ones these days.  They are satisfyingly plump, and esp. love them in fall and winter displays.  This isn't my shelf, just a photo of the birds I found online.  They're cuter in person:

Let's look at more birds:

A little vintage brass darling.   I don't have any like this, but do have a pair of midcentury small brass quail or partridges.

Look at this tiny watercolor!  I think it was on Etsy.

I think this is Rosenthal porcelain.  Not being a purist, I personally like my birds a little bit stylized, not quite so realistic, but this guy is just heart-melting, with his bright eye and jaunty little crest!

One Kings Lane has these midcentury duck tureens, which I think are handsome, not really cuddly though.

And they even had French majolica *pigeon* tureens.  Pigeon!  Trust the French, ha.  Not my favorite bird to associate with food, but have to admit, weirdly, they are not repulsive-- at least not to me.  They're sort of sweet.

This little cutie is all wood.

Now, technically, this vintage parrot isn't "chubby" per se, but, he's so sweet, and innocent, perched above his pale pink rose...

For a few years, Ganz has made a set of 3 ceramic chubby birds in various colors.  The pale green-y ones are still on Amazon, and I had my eye on some in my local gift store that had them, along with the ivory:

Talk about plump and self-satisfied!   I picked up just one of them in my gift shop, the one with the tail up.  I like that they're a combo of glaze, (which is slightly crackled) and then unglazed, scroll wings and tail.  The scroll work and the un-glazing definitely give them a retro 70's feeling-- and of course I like a little retro whimsy, here and there!  I've also seen them in a deep ruby, and cobalt...  Pretty in ivory too:

Haven't even talked about adorable owls, could go off on a tangent there, b/c I love them too!

If you have any pretty birds, that you either own or just admire, do post.  (@mousiegirl, examples from your awesome collection ALWAYS welcome....)

I love birds also @Oznell  living or statuary.  And owls don't get me started. So wise and beautiful. All the ones you showed are adorable.

I love the birds you posted @Oznell .  I especially love the wooden bird.

I have quite a few birds.  In the last picture I have the urn of one of my dog's ashes and two iron birds on wood.  I don't have them all together like that.  I just did that for the picture.

What a fantastic, unusual collection, @NickNack --  love!  That bird that's part of that fanciful, beautiful tassel, that is such a neat idea.  Would love to have a bird lamp also--- yours is one of the most charming I've seen.  And of course, I like the slightly abstract, stylized shapes of others.

Thank you for posting these lovely examples of "bird art"!

I enjoy chubby birds just like you. I've been using this pair of chubby ivory birds (Valerie's) for about 5+ yrs now. I brought them back out weeks ago after putting away the Christmas decor and will leave them until I bring out the Fall decor in mid-August.

Oh, they are so CUTE, @Susan Louise !   I've never come across those ones of Valerie's, or I probably would have gotten them too!   You've created such a breath of fresh air and nature in that corner-- love your bird lamp as well.  Delightful.
